Removing temporary and dilapidated houses in Tan Tien: When the entire political system "rolls up their sleeves"

With the joint efforts of the entire political system, now in Tan Tien commune, temporary roofs and dilapidated houses are gradually being replaced by solid houses, turning the dream of "settling down" into reality for hundreds of lives.

A Thuong (Xe Dang ethnic group, residing in Kon Tay village) is one of the households that has just been handed over a new house under the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses.

He could not hide his joy when sharing that his family has lived in Kon Tay village for 30 years. In 2004, the family received support from the State to build a house under Program 134, with an area of over 24 square meters. When the children grew up and got married, all three generations, with 10 people, only used this small house as a place to live. Up to now, after more than 20 years of use, the house has seriously degraded, but his family does not have the conditions to repair it.

When he heard that the government was supporting him to build a house, the whole family was extremely happy. Without the government's support, it was unknown when his family would be able to escape the cramped living conditions they have been living in for so long.

Similarly, Mrs. Ming’s household (Kon H’ring hamlet) was also very grateful when she received her new house. Her family’s old house was built with support from Program 134, and has been home to nine people from three generations for nearly 20 years. While the family’s livelihood currently depends on only 3.5 sao of rice fields and 2.5 sao of acacia hills, food and clothing are still scarce, having another house to live in less cramped is a big dream.

Mrs. Ming emotionally said: “When I received the notice about the house construction, I was very happy. During the whole construction process, all the work was taken care of by the police and construction workers. The family only knew how to make tea to invite the workers as a thank you...”.

Having just received a new house, Ms. Ming also received support for a pair of breeding cows from the National Target Program on Socio -Economic Development for Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2030 period. This will be a great source of motivation for her family to escape poverty in the coming time.

The joy in the new house of Mr. A Thuong and Mrs. Ming is also the common feeling of 162 households in Tan Tien commune who have been supported to build and repair houses under the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the past time. This is also a testament to the realization of the Party and State's policies and guidelines with the goal of "Leaving no one behind".

Up to now, the whole Tan Tien commune has completed repairing 71 houses, building 55 new houses and handed them over to families for stable use; the remaining 36 houses in the newly built housing group are being accelerated in construction progress, striving to be completed before August 15.

During the implementation process, the most difficult situation was in 5 villages of the Xe Dang ethnic group (in Ea Yieng commune, old Krong Pac district) because there were 63 households that needed to be repaired and 77 households that needed to be built new houses. Due to difficult economic conditions, most of the people in the village went to work for hire in other localities, leaving only the elderly and children at home. Some houses of the people were scattered, far from the concentrated residential areas, the access roads were narrow and muddy, etc., which also affected the progress of the program. However, in order to reach the finish line on time, throughout the construction process, the local Party Committee, government and the commune police force increased monitoring and urging to ensure progress and compliance with quality requirements.

According to Major Nguyen Thi Xinh, an officer of Tan Tien Commune Police , the contractor is currently constructing the remaining 36 houses, striving to complete them before August 15. To meet the schedule, the contractor has mobilized workers to divide into 7 teams, ensuring reasonable and flexible work arrangements during the construction of adjacent projects. "In the current unfavorable weather conditions, we urge the contractor to quickly complete the rough construction and roofing so that the interior work can be done... The exterior work, especially painting the walls, must only be done when the weather is sunny and favorable," said Major Nguyen Thi Xinh.

Mr. Tran Hai Dang, Secretary of the Tan Tien Commune Party Committee, said that this result was achieved thanks to the joint efforts of the entire local political system. The Party Committee and authorities of the three old communes (Ea Yieng, Ea Uy and Tan Tien) had completed the repair of temporary and dilapidated houses before May 19, helping families with housing difficulties to have more solid and stable accommodation before the rainy season.

Although the implementation process encountered many difficulties due to the scarcity of construction materials and high prices, the local Party Committee and government effectively mobilized local resources, encouraged businesses to prioritize selling construction materials at the same price as the imported materials; mobilized cadres, party members, police and military forces, union members, and youth to participate in supporting working days, and worked with families to speed up the repair progress.

"In addition, with funds mobilized from cadres, party members and people, each locality also organized the giving of national flags, pictures of Uncle Ho, and necessities and household items to people when handing over each project. This has helped spread the joy of settling down, adding motivation for poor and near-poor households to strive to overcome difficulties and build a new life," said Mr. Dang.
