Synchronous medical development
According to the Department of Health, hospitals in the city have deployed more than 10,000 treatment regimens and more than 40,000 technical procedures. From 2021 to now, the entire industry has deployed more than 3,000 new techniques.
In which, grade 1 hospitals such as Da Nang Hospital and Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital perform 80% of grade 1 techniques and more than 60% of special techniques.
Many specialized and modern medical techniques are applied at Da Nang Hospital, Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital, and Oncology Hospital and are regularly deployed, contributing to reducing the rate of transferring patients to the Central level.
Doctor Le Duc Nhan, Director of Da Nang Hospital, said that in addition to regularly performing approved specialized technical services, the hospital also deploys modern testing techniques to meet the medical examination and treatment needs of the people.
In particular, the hospital is accelerating the training of professional teams related to liver transplant techniques. In 2024, the hospital will send 12 medical staff to the United States and Japan for training and professional development, and 26 medical staff will participate in liver transplant training courses at the 108 Military Central Hospital.
According to Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hung, Director of Da Nang Oncology Hospital, the hospital deploys many modern techniques in diagnosing and treating cancer diseases; prioritizes training and developing high-quality human resources to serve the development of specialized techniques.

“The hospital successfully performed the first brachytherapy method for a child patient in Vietnam, a 2-year-old patient with a 5cm tumor. The hospital is also the first medical facility to implement autologous stem cell transplantation in Da Nang and has had 3 patients undergo this technique. These advances have helped the hospital become one of the prestigious medical units in cancer treatment in the Central region, bringing many chances of survival for patients,” Dr. Hung shared.
Dr. Tran Thanh Thuy, Director of the Department of Health, said that along with the synchronous development of grassroots healthcare, ensuring people have access to the fastest and closest primary healthcare services, the city focuses on developing specialized medical fields, especially cardiovascular, oncology, obstetrics-pediatrics, orthopedics, etc.; gradually transferring advanced technology in specialized fields such as stroke and organ transplantation.
Many advanced techniques have been transferred and put into routine implementation such as: open heart surgery, vascular intervention, high-precision radiotherapy, in vitro fertilization, organ transplantation... Cooperation with central hospitals and international medical organizations helps Da Nang medical facilities quickly access advanced and modern medical technologies, helping people receive high-tech medical examination and treatment right in the city, reducing the need to transfer patients to higher levels or abroad.
Formation of specialized medical center
The city is focusing on developing Da Nang Hospital into a special-class general hospital, taking on regional functions, and at the same time being the National Coordination Center for human organ transplantation; Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, Oncology Hospital, and Eye Hospital to become city-based specialized hospitals taking on regional functions by field...

Hospitals that undertake regional functions as assigned are responsible for providing specialized technical services to the people of Da Nang and the region to increase access to specialized medical services; participating in the task of directing the line, providing technical expertise to medical facilities in the city and the region, as well as taking on the role of regional response in case of epidemics and disasters.
To realize this goal, the Da Nang health sector has synchronously deployed many solutions, focusing on three main pillars: investing in infrastructure, improving the quality of resources and strongly responding to modern medical technology.
Continue to invest in upgrading and expanding key end-line hospitals such as Da Nang Hospital, Oncology Hospital, Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital, etc. towards forming specialized medical centers.
In addition, attracting investors to the medical sector, developing a high-quality medical tourism model, thereby not only serving local people but also targeting regional and international patients.
Dr. Tran Dinh Vinh, Director of Da Nang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, informed that the hospital continues to develop into a specialized hospital that assumes regional functions, taking care of the health of Da Nang people and the region in obstetrics/obstetrics and pediatrics, and is capable of providing specialized technical services to meet the health care needs of patients.
In particular, the hospital develops advanced, modern technology on par with advanced countries, thereby meeting the needs of tourists, especially foreign tourists who want to experience and improve their health when visiting and relaxing.
The Department of Health said that Da Nang Hospital has invested in upgrading its infrastructure and expanding its specialized treatment centers. The city aims to build Da Nang Hospital into a special-class general hospital and a regional organ transplant coordination center for the Central Highlands, helping to reduce the burden on the two bridges of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
For the Oncology Hospital, the Department of Health is investing in a modern radiotherapy system and developing advanced cancer treatment techniques such as immunotherapy and targeted therapy. By 2030, the hospital aims to become the leading cancer treatment center in the region.
The Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital has also been invested in to improve maternal and child health care capacity, build advanced reproductive support centers, develop newborn care services and treat complex diseases.
These preparations will help Da Nang become a specialized medical center, serving not only the city's residents but also the Central Highlands region.
