According to forecasts, the cost of living and university tuition in Vietnam is on the rise, especially in large cities and private universities or high-quality programs. Many universities, especially self-financed ones, have been increasing tuition fees, possibly by 10% or more each year.

In addition, expenses such as food, housing, transportation, etc. also tend to increase. This partly puts pressure on students and their families. Many students work part-time to reduce the financial burden on their families.

Not long after getting married, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien (30 years old, Thai Nguyen ) said that she and her husband were considering taking out insurance to both protect themselves and save money for their children to go to college, so that the family would not have to worry about not having enough money to pay rent and living expenses for their children.

Regularly following information about education, Mr. Ngo Manh Truong (42 years old), head of the finance department of a business in Hanoi , said: “My two children are studying at an international primary school, with a total tuition fee of about 200 million VND per year. My husband and I plan to send them to study abroad after they finish high school, so we have to save regularly. Nowadays, to give our children a good future, we cannot help but plan ahead.”

Besides education, many parents set many other goals for their children's future such as buying a house, starting a business or supporting their children's expenses during the first years of graduation.

Mr. Dinh Van Nam (36 years old), a construction engineer in Hai Phong, shared that he opened a savings fund for his child when he was 2 years old. “I don’t know what my child will choose in the future: studying abroad, starting a business or pursuing a master’s degree…, but I want my child to have the right to choose. Saving now will help my child have a reserve fund later,” said Mr. Nam.

Mr. Bui Dinh Tho, a financial consultant in Hanoi, said: “In the past 3 years, the number of parents looking for solutions to save and invest for their children has increased significantly. A notable point is that they plan early to have savings at the right time when their children need them.” Mr. Tho said this is a common trend among families, especially young families with stable finances.

Long term accumulation

In addition to popular channels such as long-term savings, investing in open-end funds, bonds, buying gold, etc., recently, when the insurance market has gradually recovered, this financial tool has also attracted the attention of many parents. Unlike popular investment channels that focus on generating profits, insurance not only helps to accumulate stably, but also protects finances if parents unfortunately encounter risks such as illness, disease, etc.

Based on that reality, many insurance companies have built products that closely follow the long-term savings needs of parents. For example, Manulife Insurance Company said it has just launched the product “Green Dream” - a joint insurance line, focusing on the goal of protecting and accumulating finances for children's future.

According to information on the company website, the “Green Dream” product guarantees a minimum interest rate throughout the contract term, plus an additional 1% interest rate for the first 10 years without any binding conditions. In the 10th year, customers will also receive a bonus of 50% of the first year’s basic insurance premium.

Regarding protection benefits, this insurance product automatically increases the insurance amount by 5% each year from year 2 to year 11 without health assessment and without increasing the insurance premium.

At the same time, each time a parent has another child, the insurance amount will be increased by 5% of the initial insurance amount without appraisal and without increasing the insurance premium.

Although newly launched, the product has received the attention of many young families. Ms. Mai Linh Ngoc (34 years old), head of the planning department of a company in Ho Chi Minh City, said that she had just joined the "Green Dream" insurance at the end of July with a fee of 25 million VND/year, for 15 years. She said: "I chose insurance because I wanted to both save and be protected. If unfortunately I have a health problem, I will have a source of payment, without affecting the overall finances of the whole family. If everything goes well, this is a stable accumulation to take care of my children later."

Many parents admit that participating in insurance is not only a financial decision but also a spiritual commitment to their children. “Every time I pay a premium, it is a reminder for me not to neglect my children’s future. By the time my children grow up, I will have accumulated some money,” Ngoc shared.

After participating in “Green Dream”, parents can expand their protection benefits by combining additional products such as “Green Shield” - protection against 143 serious illnesses with 3 flexible benefit layers, and “Green Prevention” - supporting hospital fees for both regular and intensive treatment, covering up to 100 days of hospitalization per year.
