Lam Kiet Commune today

STO - In 2020, Lam Kiet commune, Thanh Tri district (Soc Trang) achieved new rural standards. With the motto "New rural areas have only a starting point, not an ending point", the commune has continued to implement many solutions to maintain and improve the quality and effectiveness of new rural construction criteria. After more than 4 years of implementing advanced new rural construction, by 2024, the commune had completed 19/19 criteria and was recognized as a commune meeting advanced new rural standards.

Lam Kiet commune is a commune in area I, an ethnic minority area, the Khmer people account for over 50% of the total population of the commune, people's lives mainly depend on agricultural production, so there are still many difficulties. However, since the commune implemented the National Target Program on new rural construction and achieved new rural standards in 2020, the commune has had many changes, when the superiors invested in building infrastructure such as: electricity, roads, schools, stations and supported the commune to implement widespread irrigation works, helping the commune develop agriculture sustainably.

The highlight of Lam Kiet commune when reaching the advanced new rural standards is that the rate of inter-hamlet roads is more than 90% hardened; the roads are planted with ornamental flowers and the sidewalks are cleared; the synchronous lighting system ensures aesthetics and safety. The rate of small irrigation works and intra-field irrigation works is maintained annually is 100%; the area of agricultural land is actively irrigated and drained for more than 90%. The rate of households using electricity for daily life and production to ensure safety is nearly 100%. The rate of schools at all levels meeting the standards of level 1 and 2 facilities is 100%. The rate of hamlets meeting the cultural standards according to the regulations of the commune is over 70%; the commune has 6/6 hamlets with community houses...

Regarding agriculture, Lam Kiet commune is very interested in developing sustainable agriculture, increasing income for local people. To improve the efficiency of agricultural production, especially rice (the main crop of the commune), the commune has established cooperative groups and agricultural cooperatives to gather farmers to participate in the collective economy , creating large, high-quality rice output to link with companies and businesses to consume rice at better prices. Along with that, the commune has formed large fields focusing on producing high-quality rice varieties, specialty rice and guiding rice farming households to apply the technical process of "3 reductions, 3 increases", "1 must, 5 reductions", organic rice production, according to sustainable standards (SRP), applying mechanization in the stages of 100% land preparation, 40% sowing, 100% irrigation, 100% spraying and harvesting. In addition, the commune also implements a smart rice farming model that adapts to climate change, improving productivity and reducing production costs, helping farmers increase profits; participating in the Project "Sustainable development of one million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030", with a total area of 1,430 hectares. The commune's agricultural highlight is that the commune has FIFTEEN melon products that achieve OCOP 3 stars...

Comrade Nguyen Quoc Trang - Chairman of Lam Kiet Commune People's Committee said that in order to maintain and improve the quality of 19/19 advanced new rural criteria, the commune will focus on investment resources, upgrading synchronous economic - social infrastructure, suitable to the socio-economic development conditions of the locality, developing the rural economy, improving people's lives. Mobilizing people to protect invested traffic works such as: clearing, preventing landslides, promptly repairing damaged sections, not allowing works to deteriorate... Developing irrigation infrastructure to serve production associated with restructuring the agricultural sector, having a plan to dredge intra-field canals to ensure irrigation services, closing production areas to pumping stations in hamlets to bring high efficiency in agricultural production...
