Previously, Arsenal and MU were closely pursuing Gyokeres after an explosive season with 67 goal contributions in 52 matches. Sporting hoped to create an auction to push up the player's value. However, Gyokeres' rejection of MU caused this plan to go bankrupt and forced the Portuguese representative to increase the price to salvage the most from Arsenal.
The Gunners believe a price tag of around €70m (£60m) would be enough to convince Sporting to let him go. But the Portuguese side immediately refused, claiming that the figure was not enough to negotiate.
According to Record (Portugal), Arsenal currently have no intention of making a better offer for Gyokeres and are ready to pull out of the deal if Sporting continue to raise their price. Instead, the London team can turn to cheaper options such as Benjamin Sesko or Ollie Watkins.
However, Gyokeres is still Arsenal's number one target in this summer transfer window. It is known that the Swedish striker himself wants to move to Emirates. But if he cannot convince his home club to reduce the price, this deal could completely fall through.
Both Arsenal and MU need to add firepower to their attack. Arsenal is lacking a real "killer" in the center of the striker line, while MU is still struggling with names like Rasmus Hojlund who are not stable enough.
Viktor Gyokeres, with his ideal physique, versatile finishing ability and good speed, is considered a suitable choice for a physical football environment like the Premier League.
