The lack of any hangar in Vietnam has made Vietjet lose the initiative in ensuring technical safety for its fleet of more than 100 aircraft and arranging optimal exploitation of the fleet.

Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company has just sent a document to the People's Committee of Da Nang City and the Ministry of Transport requesting investment in building an aircraft maintenance hangar at Da Nang International Airport.

Accordingly, Vietjet proposed the Ministry of Transport and the People's Committee of Da Nang City to consider allowing the airline to implement the aircraft maintenance and repair hangar project at Da Nang International Airport (lot 24 according to the planning). This will help Vietjet have the first technically guaranteed facility in Vietnam, meeting the airline's development needs.

“If selected as the investor for the aircraft maintenance hangar at Da Nang International Airport, Vietjet commits to focusing resources to implement the project to ensure quality and complete it on schedule,” said a Vietjet representative.

It is known that Vietjet operated its first flight at the end of December 2011, but until now the airline still does not own any aircraft maintenance hangars in Vietnam.

This makes Vietjet lose initiative in ensuring technical safety for its fleet of about 100 aircraft, incurring large additional costs and not proactively arranging and operating the fleet in an optimal manner.

In recent times, Vietjet has continuously applied for or participated in bidding to implement hangar projects at international airports: Tan Son Nhat, Noi Bai, Cam Ranh, Da Nang, Long Thanh... but has not been able to implement them due to being stuck with procedures on land management and planning adjustment for a very long time.

Currently, all of Vietjet's aircraft technical assurance and aircraft maintenance work must be outsourced to outside technical facilities and sent abroad for maintenance.

In 2018, Vietjet also requested competent State agencies to allow investment in a hangar at Da Nang International Airport but there were no specific results.

Da Nang International Airport currently does not have a standard aircraft maintenance facility that can meet the needs of periodic aircraft repair and maintenance as well as when unexpected situations arise, while the airport still has a large reserve land fund to develop industrial facilities for aircraft maintenance and food processing.
