Vietnam continues to give nearly 30 tons of relief goods to Myanmar

On the afternoon of April 8, at Yangon International Airport, representatives of the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam handed over nearly 30 tons of relief goods to Myanmar to help the neighboring country overcome the consequences of the recent serious earthquake. Two rescue teams from the Vietnam People's Army and the Ministry of Public Security left the capital Naypyidaw (Myanmar) to return home; concluding their international mission in the neighboring country.

Lieutenant General Nguyen Tuan Anh, Director of the Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue Police Department ( Ministry of Public Security ) presented relief goods to Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein.

Comrades: Lieutenant General Nguyen Tuan Anh, Director of the Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue Police Department (Ministry of Public Security); Major General Pham Van Ty, Deputy Director of the Rescue Department (General Staff) directly handed over the above relief goods to Mr. U Soe Thein, Governor of Yangon region.

The shipment includes dry food, tents, medicine and medical supplies, personal protective equipment, milk and many other relief items.

This is also the second batch of relief goods that Vietnam has sent to Myanmar after the earthquake. Previously, on March 30, Vietnam provided emergency relief supplies at Myanmar’s request; and also provided 300,000 USD in aid to help the country overcome the consequences of the natural disaster.

Major General Pham Van Ty, Deputy Director of the Department of Search and Rescue (General Staff) and members of the Vietnam People's Army delegation presented relief goods to Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein.

* On the same afternoon, officers and soldiers of the two delegations of the People's Army and the Ministry of Public Security will also leave Myanmar to return home. Both delegations have successfully completed their search and rescue missions; helping the neighboring country overcome the consequences of the earthquake.

As a result, the Vietnam People's Army rescue team discovered 32 locations with victims trapped under the rubble; directly organized searches at 20 locations, and brought out 21 victims' bodies.

In particular, the team coordinated with rescue forces from Myanmar and Türkiye to save the life of a 26-year-old man who had been trapped in the rubble for 5 days.

With the Ministry of Public Security delegation, after more than a week of carrying out the international mission, the delegation independently brought back 7 bodies of victims trapped in collapsed buildings to hand over to their families. At the same time, officers and soldiers coordinated with rescue units from Myanmar, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Singapore to bring 7 other victims' bodies out of the rubble.

In addition to rescue work, Vietnamese delegations examined, treated, provided first aid, and distributed medicine to dozens of injured victims in this natural disaster.
