According to a VNA correspondent in Buenos Aires, on June 10, the Argentine House of Representatives and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Committee in Buenos Aires (ACBA) held a workshop to discuss enhancing cooperation between the Argentine Parliament and ASEAN, at the initiative of the Vietnamese Embassy, ACBA's rotating chairman.

The workshop was attended by Vietnamese Ambassador to Argentina, Ngo Minh Nguyet; Malaysian Ambassador, Nur Azman bin Abdul Rahim; Indonesian Ambassador, Sulaiman Syarif and Thai Chargé d'Affaires, Phisek Panupat, along with representatives of the Department of Foreign Affairs , International Cooperation and Religious Affairs of the Argentine House of Representatives, many Argentine parliamentarians and Chairmen of the Argentina Parliamentary Friendship Groups with ASEAN countries.

Speaking at the opening of the event, Vietnamese Ambassador Ngo Minh Nguyet emphasized the importance of strengthening the partnership between ASEAN and the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) in the current challenging world context.

With a combined population of more than 950 million people, the two economic blocs have complementary strengths: ASEAN in manufacturing, technology and services, while Mercosur leads in agriculture, energy and natural resources.

Ambassador Ngo Minh Nguyet proposed many specific solutions to promote cooperation, including increasing regular exchanges between parliamentary bodies, establishing joint working groups on climate change, food security and digital transformation. In particular, she emphasized the importance of signing a free trade agreement between Mercosur and ASEAN.

The diplomatic representatives of Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand also affirmed the role of ASEAN-Argentina solidarity in strengthening bilateral relations.
