Vietnam - Korea promote innovation and startups

Within the framework of the Korea Investment and Startup Week 2024 held on September 4 in Korea, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Hoang Minh affirmed the key role of science and technology in economic development and promoting international cooperation. Over the past 30 years, the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Korea has continuously developed, especially in the field of startups and innovation.

University leaders and startup organizations from the two countries are discussing the potential for cooperation in the areas of research, innovation, and startup support.

According to Deputy Minister Hoang Minh, Vietnam has more than 4,000 startups, including 3 unicorns and more than 10 businesses that have raised over 100 million USD in capital. The Deputy Minister called on Korean investors to increase investment in the startup ecosystem in Vietnam.

On this occasion, the Daejeon Center for Creative Economy and Innovation (DCCEI) and the Vietnam University and College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Network (VNEI) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with many important contents.

Specifically, the two organizations will coordinate to carry out startup support activities, such as planning and participating in official events, providing information to expand business opportunities, supporting visits and implementing joint projects to enhance the global capacity of startups.

Korea will support incubation programs at VNEI, and share experiences and transfer knowledge from DCCEI to Vietnamese startups.

"The signing of the MOU is an important step in strengthening the cooperative relationship between the two sides. We hope that this cooperation will bring many benefits to the startup community in Vietnam and Korea," said Dr. Nguyen Trung Dung, Chairman of VNEI.

After the signing ceremony, representatives of universities and start-up organizations from Vietnam and Korea participated in a discussion session on the potential for cooperation in the fields of research, innovation, and start-up support. Delegates agreed thateducation and training are key factors in strengthening and developing a sustainable partnership between the two countries.
