When summer is at its most brilliant, the fields in Hai Duong are dyed yellow by the rice fields racing to ripen. The golden color spreads with the wind, the sound of the harvester echoes steadily in the early morning sun, signaling the coming of the harvest season.

Now, combine harvesters run through the fields, bagging the grain and loading it into trucks right in the fields. Farmers now just carry the grain home from the fields. And drying the grain is now the main job of the harvest season.

There is no longer the scene of people with sickles in their hands and shoulder poles harvesting by hand like a few years ago.

In many villages in Hai Duong, after harvest, rice is not dried in the yard but brought to the communal house yard - a place that used to be a cultural center, but has now become a seasonal center.

Dong communal house yard (Thanh Tung commune, Thanh Mien district, Hai Duong) - the place where the general uprising order was issued to seize power in Thanh Mien district - is bustling with people, fans, and chatter under the ancient communal house roof these days.

The yard of Thach Loi communal house (Cam Giang town, Cam Giang district) is equally bustling. Every empty space is used as a yard to dry rice. The communal house roof that once witnessed ceremonies and festivals now quietly accompanies the harvest season.

The old people also went to the communal house yard, sitting under the eaves, watching the rice and chatting. The rice gradually dried in the sun, and the conversation continued under the communal house roof. Watching the rice was now a rare occasion to sit back, relax, and leisurely talk about the village and the fields.

The joy of a good harvest is evident on every face. This winter-spring crop, Mr. Nguyen Tho Hau's family in Thach Loi area (Cam Giang town, Cam Giang district) planted 4 hectares of rice fields, each of which yielded about 2.4 tons, much higher than the previous crop. "Good harvest, good weather, this weather only needs 2 days of sun exposure to be able to bring the rice home to store," Mr. Hau said with a satisfied smile.

Ninh Xa communal house yard (Le Ninh commune, Kinh Mon town) also becomes a rice drying yard every harvest season. In the afternoon, when the sun is mild, children finish their housework and rush out to the yard to help adults collect rice.

Ms. Vu Thi An (Le Ninh commune, Kinh Mon town) was happy when standing next to a pile of rice still warm from the sun. "This season is considered a big success. I planted 5 sao, each sao also produced about 2 to 2.5 quintals of rice" - she said.

The joy of a good harvest is not only in each bag of rice, but also clearly shown on the sun-tanned faces of the farmers. The nods and the questions “how many quintals per sao?” resound like a harvest news bulletin.

In the communal house yard, the harvest atmosphere flows with each hand fan. It is not simply the material joy after a bountiful harvest, but also the feeling of peace of mind when the land does not fail the people, the sky does not fail the seeds, and the communal house roof is like a silent supporter for a bountiful harvest.
