Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet asked countries to support Vietnam's candidacy for the Human Rights Council, strongly affirming that if elected, Vietnam will continue to participate in an active, constructive, and responsible manner.

On December 12, the Vietnamese Mission to the United Nations in New York (USA) held a ceremony to announce Vietnam's re-election to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2026-2028 term.
The event, held on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, attracted the attention and participation of many ambassadors and representatives of permanent and observer delegations to the United Nations.
Attending and speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet thanked the countries for their trust in electing Vietnam to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2023-2025 term; affirming that in its role as a member over the past two years, Vietnam has promoted priorities on protecting vulnerable groups, promoting gender equality, labor rights, the right to health care, the rightto education , and chaired the Resolutions on "Commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and the 30th Anniversary of the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action (VDPA)" and on "Climate Change and Human Rights," marking Vietnam's mark at the United Nations' main body for protecting human rights.
Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet emphasized that Vietnam's remarkable socio-economic achievements after nearly 40 years of renovation are the result of the policy of putting people at the center of all development policies, a balanced approach to promoting human rights comprehensively, from civil and political rights to economic, social and cultural rights, as well as prioritizing care and protection of vulnerable groups, in addition to the great efforts of Vietnamese people both at home and abroad.
In that spirit, Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet asked countries to continue supporting Vietnam's candidacy for the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2026-2028 term, strongly affirming that if elected, Vietnam will continue to participate actively, constructively and responsibly, and will strive to promote the implementation of the common goals of the Human Rights Council to ensure better and better enjoyment of human rights for all people around the world.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the event, Ambassador Riyad Mansour, Head of the Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine to the United Nations, assessed Vietnam as a country with a tradition of standing for freedom and justice. Vietnam is now a very important country in the international community, an active and responsible member of the Non-Aligned Movement, the G77 Group and China, the United Nations Human Rights Council as well as the United Nations in general.
Ambassador Riyad Mansour expressed his confidence: “Vietnam will serve another term at the UN Human Rights Council and that is wonderful. We need an active member like Vietnam at the UN”./.
