Vietnam - Cambodia proposes a series of solutions to promote trade

DNVN - A series of proposals for practical trade promotion solutions from organizing fairs, building online connection databases to removing technical barriers are expected to create new breakthroughs in economic cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia.

On August 28 in Phnom Penh, the Vietnam - Cambodia business trade conference was held to promote trade, expand markets and realize the goal of bringing bilateral trade turnover to the 20 billion USD mark soon.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Seang Thay - Secretary of State of the Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia highly appreciated the participation of the agencies of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam in organizing activities to support businesses. After visiting the exhibition area, he realized that Vietnamese businesses can supply many products that the Cambodian market is really in need of.

"I appreciate the activities to support businesses of the two countries to directly trade and hope to have more similar programs," Mr. Seang Thay shared. He also announced plans to organize a large-scale import-export fair in December 2025, with the support of the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade.

According to Mr. Do Viet Phuong - Commercial Counselor, Vietnam Trade Office in Cambodia, the economies and export commodity lists of the two countries are complementary, creating a solid foundation for realizing the target of 20 billion USD in turnover.

To effectively exploit the potential for cooperation, Mr. Bui Quang Hung - Deputy Director of the Trade Promotion Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam has proposed a series of key contents to be implemented in the coming time. The solutions include: organizing fairs and exhibitions of Vietnamese goods in Cambodia; establishing an online database connecting businesses of the two countries; organizing market survey delegations; and increasing training for businesses on Cambodia's import standards and regulations.

Mr. Hung requested the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce to actively support trade promotion activities, provide information on new policies and strengthen connections between Vietnamese enterprises and distribution systems and major importers in Cambodia.

"We hope that the two sides will coordinate closely in removing difficulties and technical barriers to promote the smooth flow of goods and balance the interests of both sides," Mr. Hung suggested.

Within the framework of the conference, hundreds of meetings and direct exchanges between businesses of both sides took place enthusiastically. The fields attracting diverse interests, from oil and grease, fertilizers, electrical equipment, mechanics to agricultural products, processed foods and logistics services.

Many cooperation ideas and business agreements have been laid. Mr. Dang Van Hop - Director of Dak Lak Macadamia Company Limited, said that he has connected with a number of units that have a need to distribute high-quality macadamia products in Cambodia. Similarly, Mr. Truong Ngoc Luan - General Director of Su Su Vietnam Import-Export Company shared that the conference has created valuable opportunities to meet potential customers in a completely new market.

The conference is not only a trade forum but also a testament to the determination of the two governments in creating a favorable environment for businesses, contributing to the common prosperity of the two countries.
