Located next to Lam Dong province, Da Mi has beautiful, poetic natural scenery and a cool climate. Now, Da Mi, Ham Thuan Bac district is considered a "rough gem" that is starting to shine.

“Rough Gem”

Da Mi belongs to Ham Thuan Bac district, Binh Thuan , bordering Lam Dong province. This is a land famous for its charming landscape, with a cool climate all year round. When traveling here, the highlight is the natural landscape with 2 Ham Thuan - Da Mi lakes and fruit-laden orchards. Ham Thuan lake is 2,500 hectares wide and Da Mi lake is 600 hectares wide, both are beautiful natural paintings, surrounded by mountains, hills and large and small islands in the middle of the lake, associated with ordinary people, quietly making a living. If exploited properly and fully for its eco-tourism potential, this place will be a new destination on the national tourism map, bringing great economic value to the locality.

However, in recent years, Da Mi tourism is still like a hidden "rough gem" waiting to shine. Although the locality is very interested and makes efforts to call for tourism investors, with the determination to turn Da Mi into an ideal destination attracting a large number of tourists. However, that effort only stopped at small "spontaneous" investments. By 2020, Lua Viet Tourism Company Limited - Ho Chi Minh City organized a new tour to stimulate domestic tourism after the Covid-19 pandemic with the program "Follow the moon up the forest down to the sea". During those trips, a group of journalists from the Vietnam Journalists Association and travel agencies in the southern provinces visited and experienced the tour from Ho Chi Minh City - Cat Tien National Park (Lam Dong) - Da Mi - Ke Ga - Phan Thiet, staying in Da Mi for 2 days and 1 night. The field trip to Da Mi left an impression on reporters and tourism professionals about the beautiful scenery and tourism potential of this place.

After that, some investors came to inquire, among them was a business that registered to invest in Green Holiday Eco-tourism Area, with a total investment of up to 150 billion VND, creating momentum for Da Mi to gradually shape future tourist areas. To develop tourism well in Da Mi in the long term, Ham Thuan Bac district has also focused on creating a green, clean, and beautiful landscape by planting many types of flowers and encouraging people to join hands in tourism.

However, the attraction of sea tourism - the "specialty" of Binh Thuan is stronger, so other types of eco-tourism in the province are sluggish. Therefore, it is understandable that Da Mi, despite its beauty, is still a hidden "rough gem".

More and more tourists come to visit.

Shine

Today, everything has changed with the presence of the North-South Expressway. In particular, the DT 714 route is bustling with visitors to the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee Base Relic Site in Sa Lon Forest, Dong Giang Commune to offer incense to commemorate heroic martyrs, conveniently stopping by Da Mi, which has been invested in and upgraded. That has given Da Mi tourism - a "rough gem" a chance to shine. Many people are coming to Da Mi more and more not only to sightsee but also to enjoy its typical fruit specialties, especially durian.

Many Da Mi residents have boldly invested in tourism, despite certain difficulties. “I live in Da Mi, and I see visitors from everywhere coming to Da Mi to visit and enjoy the scenery on the lake, but I have not seen any passenger transport service here that ensures safety. So I invested in a tour of the lake combined with a visit to the orchard, to meet the needs of locals and tourists…”, Director of Da Mi Tourism Development Joint Stock Company Mai Van Minh shared. Mr. Minh added that currently, the demand of tourists coming to Da Mi is very high, but the demand for accommodation and rest is still limited due to land-related issues, so no one dares to invest.

Da Mi today is changing, no longer like a hidden "rough gem".

What Mr. Minh said is consistent with what I saw when I just had a weekend picnic in Da Mi and witnessed many tourists flocking here. The most interesting thing is probably the journey on a cruise to Qi Tian Island to enjoy the landscape, then visit the fruit gardens such as durian, jackfruit, mango, macadamia... In addition, tourists can also try their hand at thrilling games such as canoeing on the lake. That image, never appeared before, is a manifestation of this land that is starting to change every day.

Currently, the policy of Ham Thuan Bac district is very interested in, encouraging, creating favorable conditions for businesses, cooperatives, and people to invest in developing resort tourism products, forest - waterfall - lake ecotourism, nature conquest tourism, agricultural ecotourism, community tourism combined with homestay... At this rate, it won't be long before Da Mi shines to become the top ecotourism area with its own unique features, not only in Binh Thuan but also in the Southeast region. Because this place has all the elements to make that happen. And to be more realistic, perhaps we should once set foot in Da Mi to experience and admire the unique beauty of this place.
