Volleyball players are dream role models for women
In 2012, Women's Health magazine (UK) conducted a survey with 1,000 women of different ages, about which sports athletes they felt most attracted to. The result was volleyball winning.
Also in this survey, many reasons were given. In conclusion, Women's Health magazine explained that the reason for volleyball's victory comes not only from the appearance of male athletes, but also from their charisma.
"Volleyball players look like they just stepped out of a fashion shoot. They are tall, broad-shouldered, with just enough leanness without being too muscular, coupled with flexibility and a calm demeanor," the magazine said.
Another survey conducted in 2018 by Men's Journal magazine, this time volleyball, along with swimming and tennis, was ranked in the group of "3 sports that make men the hottest in the eyes of women".
In Korean and Japanese culture, volleyball is often conveyed through anime, manga, and manhwa as the sport with the most female male idols.
Why is volleyball attractive to women?
This is a topic of interest to researchers in the fields of behavioral evolution and neuroscience. Volleyball is considered a sport that requires quick reflexes, full body movements, precise coordination between eyes - hands - feet and especially the ability to judge.

According to a research team led by Dr. Bernhard Fink of the University of Göttingen (Germany), published in the journal Evolution and Human Behavior in 2007:
"Women tend to be attracted to men who have good and rhythmic movements. These are implicit signs of a healthy nervous system, good genetics and a favorable biological foundation for the survival and development of children - important factors in subconscious mate selection," said Dr. Fink.
Besides, the body shape of volleyball players also fits the universal attractive body standard.
According to research from the University of Texas (USA), a waist-to-shoulder ratio of about 0.6 to 0.7 is the ideal level that most women are attracted to.
This is also a common ratio in professional volleyball players, because this sport helps develop strong shoulder, thigh and waist muscles without losing body flexibility.
Not only attractive in appearance, volleyball also develops social psychological characteristics that make players more attractive.

According to a study published in the Journal of Social Psychology in 2015, team sports such as volleyball have a positive impact on EQ – emotional intelligence. Thereby helping players control emotions better, communicate effectively and get along in a group environment.
These are traits that women often appreciate in a potential mate: moderation, non-violence, cooperation, and commitment to the common good.
In addition, the temperament of volleyball players is often assessed as calm and confident, but not too "aggressive" like other contact sports, or too quiet like table tennis, badminton...
Of course, sex appeal is a complex concept, influenced by many factors such as appearance, personality, living environment and culture. But the truth is, volleyball is a sport that brings physical beauty as well as a healthy lifestyle.
