Van Minh Hieu won the gold medal at the 2025 Southeast Asian Karate Championship

On June 20, the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center announced that athlete Van Minh Hieu of the Phu Yen Karate team had just competed with the Vietnam Karate team at the 2025 Southeast Asian Karate Championship held in Brunei and excellently won the gold medal.

At the tournament, Van Minh Hieu competed in the kumite category of 61kg and won all 3 matches, especially in the final match with a convincing 5-0 victory over the Indonesian athlete.

This is the second time the Tay Hoa athlete has won a gold medal at a regional tournament. Before 2023, the athlete born in 2007 also won a valuable gold medal at the Southeast Asian Karate Championship.

Currently, Van Minh Hieu is being supported by the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center to train at the National Sports Training Center in Ho Chi Minh City. The athlete's upcoming goal is to win a medal at the National Sports Festival in 2026.
