On the afternoon of June 27, the Vietnam U22 team entered its first training session in Ba Ria - Vung Tau. This is the team's third gathering since the beginning of the year, aiming for three major goals: the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, the 2026 Asian U23 Championship qualifiers, and the 33rd SEA Games.

Because 9 players are scheduled to compete in the 2024-2025 National Cup final on June 29 as well as the 2024-2025 season play-off on the evening of June 27, the U22 Vietnam team did not have enough players for the first training session.

They are goalkeepers Cao Van Binh, Ho Van Cuong, Nguyen Quang Vinh, Dinh Xuan Tien, Le Dinh Long Vu (Song Lam Nghe An), Pham Minh Phuc, Nguyen Dinh Bac (Hanoi Police), Nguyen Phi Hoang and Nguyen Duc Anh ( SHB Da Nang).

In this training session, Coach Kim Sang Sik called up 35 players, many of whom are promising and have international experience. Among them, 8 players who won the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 Championship continue to be trusted.

In addition, the U22 Vietnam team continues to have the presence of two overseas Vietnamese players Viktor Le (Hong Linh Ha Tinh Club) and Alex Bui (Bohemians Praha 1905 B team, Czech Republic) after the training session at the end of May.

These are two factors expected to bring new momentum to the Vietnam U22 team.

In addition, the training session also saw the first participation of Nguyen Ngoc My - a midfielder who won the title of "Best Player" of the 2023 National U19 Tournament, "Top Scorer" of the 2024 National U21 Tournament, contributing greatly to the bronze medal achievement of U21 Thanh Hoa.

The 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship will take place from July 15 to 31 in Indonesia. The Vietnam U22 team is in Group B and will face Laos (July 19) and Cambodia (July 22).

Having won the Southeast Asian U23 Championship twice in a row in 2022 and 2023, U22 Vietnam is considered one of the brightest candidates for this year's championship.

However, coach Kim Sang Sik emphasized that the biggest goal is not immediate achievements but the comprehensive development of young players.

The Korean coach shared: "Winning consecutive championships is something to be proud of, but instead of putting too much pressure on ourselves, we want to focus on trying our best in every match.

I always encourage players to see this tournament as an opportunity to grow and develop, rather than just aiming for results. Results, in my opinion, will be a natural consequence of that process."

According to the plan, the U22 Vietnam team will continue training in Ba Ria - Vung Tau until July 12. Coach Kim Sang Sik and his team will then move to Ho Chi Minh City to prepare for the flight to Indonesia on the morning of July 14.
