According to the Departmentof Education and Training, more than 11,000 candidates have been identified as having passed the 10th grade entrance exam at 20 public high schools that have organized the exam. The remaining 34 public high schools are urgently recruiting students. Even candidates who have not passed the entrance exam still have the right to continue to be considered for admission to the remaining schools.
Public schools are less stressful.
The province currently has 54 public high schools. Every year, the Department of Education and Training only organizes entrance exams for 20 schools. The remaining schools only need to consider admission because there is no pressure on input.
After the announcement of the results of the 10th grade entrance exam, only students in Bien Hoa city have almost run out of opportunities to enter public schools, while the remaining localities still have opportunities. Besides public schools, opportunities to enter 10th grade are also open to private high schools, vocational education - continuing education centers and vocational schools that teach culture combined with vocational training according to the 9+3 model.
For example, in Long Khanh city, there are 3 public high schools, only Long Khanh High School conducts entrance exams, the remaining 2 high schools, Hoang Dieu High School and Tran Phu High School, only conduct admission exams. Candidates who previously took the entrance exam to Long Khanh High School but failed to pass still have the opportunity to continue to be admitted to the above 2 schools using their transcripts. In addition, Long Khanh city also has 4 private schools that enroll 10th grade students, with tuition fees suitable for parents' income.
Or in Vinh Cuu district, among 3 public high schools, only Tri An High School in Vinh An town has to apply the entrance exam method, because the number of students wishing to study in grade 10 is higher than the school's capacity.
Meanwhile, in Trang Bom district, due to the large number of private schools in the district that are able to enroll 10th graders and have reasonable tuition fees, the pressure on enrollment has been somewhat shared with public schools. Principal of Ngo Si Lien High School Trinh Van Thinh said: “In the coming school year, the school was initially assigned 630 quotas, but when considering the standard scores for the 10th grade entrance exam, the school was assigned 676 quotas. The reason for exceeding the enrollment quota is to “make up for” the situation where students are admitted but do not enroll, but continue to study at private schools.”
Private school students may be eligible for tuition assistance.
To ensure fairness between public and private school students, the Ministry of Education and Training has proposed that the state budget support tuition fees for both students studying at private and public schools teaching general education programs. This support level is expected to be at a maximum of the tuition fee ceiling of non-autonomous public schools as stipulated by the Provincial People's Council.
Private schools waiting for candidates
Unlike previous years, the enrollment work for grade 10 in private high schools is somewhat stressful due to high enrollment demand, this year the enrollment situation is the opposite. Many high schools are still waiting for parents to submit their applications for grade 10. The Chairman of the Board of Directors of a private school in Bien Hoa city said: “The enrollment work for grade 10 this year has fluctuated quite a bit compared to previous years. This was predicted before the number of students completing grade 9 (school year 2024-2025) in the whole province decreased by 20,000 students. On the other hand, this year the Department of Education and Training has increased the enrollment quota for grade 10 for public high schools by 1,000 compared to last year, so private schools have even fewer sources of enrollment.”
Mr. Dinh Ngoc Tu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dinh Tien Hoang Education System (Bien Hoa City), said that the school has 2 campuses in Bien Hoa City and Long Thanh District with an enrollment target of 1,700 students. To attract students to grade 10, this year the school decided not to increase tuition fees compared to last year, not only for students entering grade 10 but also for students currently studying at the school. In addition, the school has a policy of reducing tuition fees by 10% for families with 2 children studying at the school, and increasing bus routes to pick up and drop off students to school for the convenience of students and parents.
Ms. Pham Thi Ngoc Ly, Principal of Bui Thi Xuan Primary, Secondary and High School (Bien Hoa City) said that this year the school was assigned a target of enrolling 1,260 10th grade students. The school is still accepting applications, even on holidays, until the target is met. Students admitted to 10th grade next school year will have better learning conditions when the school completes upgrading facilities, invests in modern functional rooms, increases experiential educational activities, and continues to improve boarding services for students.
Many parents whose children have just finished grade 9 this year also feel “easier” when looking for a school for their children to continue studying in grade 10. Mr. Pham Anh Khoa, a parent living in Trung Dung ward (Bien Hoa city), said: “2 years ago, my child entered grade 10 but both public and private schools were difficult. However, this year, many private schools have “wide open doors” for admission, not to the point of having to send my child to a continuing education center. Because there is no rush, I will continue to consider which private school is the most suitable and then submit my official application.”
