Important victory of Australian women's team against Philippine women's team
On the evening of August 10 in Phu Tho , a shock occurred when the Philippine women's team lost 0-1 to the Australian women's team. On the FIFA rankings, the Australian women's team ranked 15th, the Philippines ranked 39th, but coming to this tournament, the Australian women's team only brought a young squad consisting of female players under 23 years old.
That's why they lost 1-2 to the Myanmar women's team in the first match. That forced coach Joe Palatsides to change to find opportunities to help his students keep their hopes of going further.
Mr. Joe changed almost the entire lineup with 10/11 positions. The only person who continued to play was striker Rasmussen wearing the number 11 shirt. 10 people who started in the Myanmar match were replaced.
The Australian women's team even changed their tactical formation from 4-4-2 to 4-5-1 when meeting the Philippines.
At least those changes helped the Australian women's team not to be outdone by the "giant" Philippines in Southeast Asia. Australia even took the lead in the 45+2 minute thanks to Jancevsk.
This golden goal was defended with great difficulty by the Australian girls. The Philippines did not want to lose because they would have to face Myanmar in the last match, while Australia only had to face Timor-Leste.
All efforts of the Philippines were in vain. They lost 0-1 and risked being eliminated from the game early if they did not beat Myanmar. Meanwhile, Australia revived their chance to enter the semi-finals.
In the previous match, the Myanmar women's team easily defeated the Timor-Leste women's team 3-0. Myanmar leads Group B with 6 points, the Philippines and Australia both have 3 points after 2 matches.
