How should students apply makeup to avoid damaging their skin?
Beware of skin irritation, skin atrophy
Master Nguyen Dinh Huan, Children's Hospital 2, Ho Chi Minh City, said that teenagers all have a legitimate need to beautify themselves.
However, these girls often listen to friends or social networks to choose to buy beauty products. Currently, there are many beauty products on the market.
There are branded, reputable products that have been proven to be effective. On the other hand, there are also products that are not labeled, of poor quality, and not suitable for children's skin.
Students in middle school and high school who use low-quality, unknown products... can cause skin allergies, skin irritation, thinning skin, skin atrophy, acne, skin darkening...
Dr. Tran Ngoc Phuong, Department of Dermatology, Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital, said that there is actually no recommendation on the age at which teenagers should start wearing makeup, because it depends on many things.
The real issue is what you feel is right and appropriate for your lifestyle and circumstances.
However, because at this age, children's hormones are not stable, their skin will be extremely sensitive, and most of them will also have acne, so using cosmetics incorrectly can have long-term effects on their skin after adulthood.
For young people who like to wear makeup, Dr. Ngoc Phuong advises young people to look at the product ingredients before using, to avoid certain chemicals in cosmetic products such as phthalates, parabens... and to choose products that do not cause acne and do not clog pores...
In addition, change the way you use makeup every day to suit your age. Avoid wearing heavy makeup, use light makeup.
Instead of foundation and concealer, use moisturizer and sunscreen. Instead of matte lipsticks and long-lasting lipsticks, use tinted lip balms and light-colored lip glosses.
Use an eyelash curler to add a little extra volume to your lashes without having to apply mascara or eyeliner.
Remove makeup thoroughly before going to bed.
Practice good hygiene habits when starting to use cosmetics such as washing your hands before applying makeup, not sharing makeup or makeup brushes with others, always cleaning your personal makeup brushes and sponges, throwing away old products to avoid infection, and always remembering to remove makeup thoroughly and wash your face before going to bed.
Always pay attention to your skin so you can spot any small problems. If a product causes you to feel stinging, itching, redness or your skin gets worse after using it, you should stop using it immediately, seek help from your family or see a dermatologist.
Doctor Huan advises that before intending to beautify the skin by applying makeup, children need to be consulted by a dermatologist or pediatrician to know how to choose the right moisturizers, sunscreens, makeup removers, makeup products... that are good for the skin and do not cause harm.
