The sentiments from two foreign diplomats are probably also the common feelings of international friends on the occasion of Vietnam celebrating its 80th National Day on September 2 and looking forward to the era of national growth.
The strong vitality of the Vietnamese socialist regime
In a recent meeting with the press, Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Ha Vi affirmed that September 2, 1945 was of great significance, marking the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, starting a new journey in the path of national liberation, national unification, and towards the goal of building socialism in Vietnam.
According to the Chinese Ambassador, this is a great victory of the Vietnamese people and the achievements that Vietnam has made over the past 80 years, from a nation that has just gained independence to developing the country to become increasingly rich and powerful, are truly impressive.

“Vietnam’s 80 years of building socialism is both a history of resilient struggle from national independence to a prosperous nation, and a journey of continuous discovery to prove the superiority and strong vitality of the Vietnamese socialist regime. Vietnam is successful not only because of its remarkable achievements, but also because it has found a socialist path that is suitable to the country’s reality,” Ambassador Ha Vi emphasized.
From that, Ambassador Ha Vi said that the victory of Vietnam's independence revolution has shown valuable experiences: from the steadfast leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam with the basic orientations for Vietnam to have the foundation, strength, position and international prestige as today; to the steadfastness in the path to socialism, which is a solid foundation for Vietnam to escape poverty and achieve outstanding growth.
Besides, there is a solid theoretical foundation when combining Marxism-Leninism with the reality of the country's situation; as well as actively integrating internationally, especially handling relations well with other countries, including neighboring countries like China to create the strength of the times for the development of Vietnam.
“What has impressed me deeply is that since the second half of 2024, the Communist Party of Vietnam under the leadership of General Secretary To Lam, with great political courage and determination, has led the entire people to carry out extensive reform, strengthen the Party's leadership, and focus on four "pillars of policy": technological innovation, international integration, legislation and law enforcement, and private economy; at the same time, promoting the reform of the Party-government structure and the merger of provinces and cities. Vietnam has achieved many unprecedented achievements,” the Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam emphasized.
Ambassador Ha Vi also expressed his belief that, under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Vietnam will successfully organize the 14th National Congress, moving towards a new era of development, while making increasingly greater contributions to peace and development in the region and the world.
And prominent role in diplomacy, economics
Meanwhile, the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Vietnam Julien Guerrier said: “Vietnam’s economic development is something that everyone can see. I have been coming to Vietnam for nearly 30 years, and every time I return, I see clear progress: from lifting people out of poverty, to building a modern country, and on the path to becoming a developed country by 2045.”
Affirming that Vietnam is the country with which the EU has the most extensive cooperation, Ambassador Guerrier said: “Over the past 35 years of establishing diplomatic relations, the EU and Vietnam have built a solid, stable, trustworthy and reliable partnership. That is truly wonderful”. And according to the EU Ambassador, what is more important is that Vietnam not only focuses on growth but also aims for sustainable development, with a commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, along with reforms in the legal system, organizational apparatus, digital transformation and green energy transition.
“As Vietnam develops and integrates economically, first joining the WTO and becoming one of the countries with the leading growth rate, Vietnam also enhances its position in the international arena,” the EU Ambassador said, citing Vietnam’s participation in the Human Rights Council, initiating initiatives related to climate change and human rights, or protecting children in cyberspace; especially in ASEAN, Vietnam is also playing an increasingly prominent role.
In addition, over the years, Vietnam has built positive and friendly relations with most countries in the world. The policy of “making friends with all” has put Vietnam in a very favorable position to play the role of mediator between parties in conflicts. “We have seen Vietnam hosting the US-North Korea summit in the past. It will be interesting to see how Vietnam can develop its core diplomatic skills to support international mediation in the future,” the EU Ambassador affirmed.
Joining the Vietnamese people to enjoy the heroic atmosphere of the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and National Day on September 2, Ambassador Guerrier expressed: “I would like to share the pride of being present in Vietnam at this time, witnessing what your country has achieved in the past 80 years: an independent, sovereign nation, and at the same time a strong growing economy, bringing hope and a future to the people.
When looking at Vietnam today, people can be proud of what previous generations as well as the current generation have achieved. Congratulations on the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day and more importantly, congratulations on the great strides that Vietnam has made in the past 80 years!
