University speaks out about announcing additional criteria after knowing the benchmark score

Two days after announcing the admission scores, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi announced the sub-criteria with admission scores in 2025.

Accordingly, the school announced the sub-criteria with standard scores according to the method of considering high school graduation exam scores and HSA capacity assessment test scores.

For example, for Journalism, the standard score according to the original combination C00/X401 is 28.2, the secondary criterion is the order of preference from 4 and above. If the candidate gets 28.2 but places the preference for this major in the 5th order, he/she will not be admitted.

Or with the Tourism and Travel Services Management major with a benchmark of 27.87, the secondary criterion is that candidates must put this major in their first choice. Putting it below their first choice, candidates who achieve the same benchmark score still fail.

However, many people are worried that the school's addition of additional criteria two days after knowing the benchmark scores could cause some candidates who just met the benchmark scores to "go from passing to failing".

Speaking with VietNamNet , an admissions officer from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University , Hanoi, said that parents and candidates do not need to worry because when looking up the failure/pass results on the Northern admission system, the results have been calculated based on additional criteria.

“In previous years, the Northern virtual filtering group would return the benchmark score and additional criteria. However, this year, the group only returns the benchmark score, so the school must calculate the additional criteria based on the results of the admission list returned by the Ministry of Education and Training.

The school added additional criteria to help students and parents understand better because they had not been previously announced with the admission scores. This does not affect the admission results," he said.

According to the representative of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the additional criteria apply to cases where candidates have the same admission score. This is also clearly stated in the school's admission information. In cases where the scores are equal, the school will give priority to candidates with higher preferences. Therefore, this is not against the regulations.

Candidates with extra points still fail because the university mistakenly combined the exam . Many candidates taking the entrance exam to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities with combination D66 were surprised because even though they had extra points to pass, they still failed their desired choice.
