The information "a candidate with 29.75 points still fails Foreign Trade University" shared on social networks today attracted public attention because the highest standard score to enter Foreign Trade University this year is only 28.5 points .

Speaking to VietNamNet on the morning of August 24, a representative of Foreign Trade University said that the school had conducted a preliminary review after receiving information circulating on social networks.

However, the school confirmed that it did not find any data that matched the information that the candidate scored 29.75 points in block A but failed to get into the school.

The school representative said that this can only happen when the candidate (if real) does not register for admission to Foreign Trade University. Or they have registered for another choice above and were admitted before considering the choice to Foreign Trade University, and therefore are no longer eligible to be admitted to the school.

If the candidate really has that score and registers for Foreign Trade University with a higher priority than other preferences, he/she will definitely be admitted according to the admission process from high to low of the Ministry of Education and Training and the school.

“If this really happens, the school recommends that candidates immediately contact the school or the Ministry of Education and Training so that the school and the Ministry of Education and Training can resolve the candidates’ rights. In case it is not true, the school hopes that candidates will not post false information, causing public confusion, and need to be alert to fake information on social networks,” he said.

The school representative also analyzed further the assumption that a candidate with a total score of 29.75 in the A00 combination registers for the school: If the candidate registers for the standard programs of the Foreign Trade University, that is, using the high school exam results with the combination of Math - Physics - Chemistry, then he/she will definitely be admitted. However, if he/she registers for the Advanced Foreign Economic Program - in cooperation with an American university, requiring a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 - the calculation is different. For example, if the candidate gets a Math score of 9.75; Physics or Chemistry score of 10; but only has an IELTS score of 6.5 (converted to 8.5 points), the total score is only 28.25 points. Therefore, it is not enough to pass this advanced program.

In 2025, the admission score to Foreign Trade University will be from 24 to 28.5 points. The advanced program of Foreign Economics has the highest admission score of 28.5 points.

This year, Foreign Trade University converted scores based on the percentage (%) of candidates achieving the highest score threshold in each method and divided into groups of top 1%, 1-3%, 3-5%, 5-7%, 7-10%. The admission results showed the uniformity of the methods in input quality. In addition, the University does not add points for IELTS certificates or apply low conversion scores. An IELTS score of 6.5 is only converted to 8.5 and to achieve a score of 10, candidates must have an IELTS score of 8.0 or higher.

For example, the advanced program in Foreign Economics has an admission score of 28.5 points or higher by combining the high school graduation exam and international foreign language certificate. To reach this threshold, candidates need to achieve a minimum SAT score of 1,530 and IELTS 8.0. Similarly, in the standard programs (3 high school graduation exams) and some Career Orientation and International Development programs (combining 2 high school graduation exams and international foreign language certificates), the admission score of 28 and above 27 (average of 9 points/subject) is converted to a domestic competency assessment certificate equivalent to 115 HSA points or 1,008 V-ACT points - in the top 1% HSA and top 3% V-ACT nationwide.

For Language and Computer Science majors, the admission score is calculated on a scale of 40, in which Foreign Language (Language major) and Mathematics (Computer Science major) are doubled.
