Recently, representatives of Da Nhim – Ham Thuan – Da Mi Hydropower Joint Stock Company (DHD Company), Binh Thuan Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited and leaders of the People's Committees of Tanh Linh and Duc Linh districts conducted a field inspection of the water supply situation in the downstream area of Ham Thuan – Da Mi dam and reservoir in Tanh Linh and Duc Linh districts.
Through inspection, it is shown that the production area of the 2023-2024 winter-spring crop in the two districts of Tanh Linh and Duc Linh is about 17,000 hectares, currently the area of drought and water shortage is 726 hectares (of which, the drought area is 126 hectares (mainly concentrated in Duc Linh district), the water shortage area is 600 hectares (of which Tanh Linh district is 470 hectares). According to farmers: The water shortage has occurred since after Tet. The main North canal running through Duc Linh district has cracked the bottom of many sections of the canal. Many diesel pumps placed along the canal have been ready for a long time but have not seen any water yet. Farmers in the two districts of Tanh Linh and Duc Linh are eagerly waiting for the cool water to flow in to save the rice fields that are suffering from drought and water shortage.
A representative of Da Nhim - Ham Thuan - Da Mi Hydropower Joint Stock Company said: As of February 28, 2024, the average water flow to Ham Thuan Lake was 10.4 m 3 /s, the lake water level was at 600.7m; Ham Thuan - Da Mi Hydropower Plant cluster has run generators and supplied water to the downstream area of Ham Thuan - Da Mi dam and reservoir with an average flow in January 2024 of 32 m 3 /s.
In the current severe drought conditions, the flow rate of the machine running in the past time does not ensure the water supply requirements for agricultural production. Therefore, the leaders of the People's Committees of Tanh Linh and Duc Linh districts have proposed that Da Nhim - Ham Thuan - Da Mi Hydropower Joint Stock Company pay attention and promptly operate the unit's hydropower plant cluster with an average daily flow rate of at least 40 m3 /s and a machine running time of at least 14 hours/day. The two localities will well implement the appropriate water use plan in the current drought conditions; conduct dredging, clearing, and repairing irrigation canals to ensure water supply for agricultural production. At the same time, strengthen propaganda and mobilize people to use water economically and reasonably; make the most of available water sources from ponds and lakes to irrigate crops, especially the winter-spring rice crop of 2023 - 2024.
