9x village chief starts business thanks to community tourism 'miniature West'

TPO - After 3 years of implementing the community tourism model, a young man in Binh Dinh not only made his mark on the local tourism map but also strongly inspired a change in economic development thinking, from the local advantages as well as timely updates on modern tourism trends.

Graduated from University with a major in Business Administration, Mr. Dang Duy Phuong (born in 1993, from Phuoc Son commune, Tuy Phuoc district, Binh Dinh) faced a major turning point in his life with many career opportunities. But unlike most people, Mr. Phuong decided to choose to stay with the land where he was born and raised.

“I always think, if everyone leaves to find opportunities, who will stay to build their homeland? My hometown has a lot of tourism potential, in which Con Chim is a very attractive place, with wild beauty. Especially with the mangrove ecosystem, the place is likened to a "miniature Western river region" in the heart of Binh Dinh", Mr. Phuong shared.

From that idea, in 2022, the Con Chim Phuoc Son Ecotour ecotourism model was officially born. The participating members are mostly young people, who are the Youth Union Secretaries of the villages of Phuoc Son commune.

Mr. Phuong (first row, left) is a typical example of a generation of young people who dare to think, dare to do, live responsibly and are passionate about the community tourism model in their hometown.

Without investing heavily or copying models from other places, Mr. Phuong firmly chose the path of community-based tourism, relying on the local people. As a connector, he is both the tour model designer and the one who trains local people to participate in operations, tour guides, and even prepare dishes to serve tourists.

Every experience at Con Chim is imbued with local character and friendly spirit. Visitors can immerse themselves in the wild nature, enjoy the fresh air among the mangrove forests, enjoy local specialties and chat with the simple people. He reported that the number of visitors who return after experiencing the island is relatively high.

“We build tours that are associated with experiences. Tourists will be able to paddle SUP to see Con Chim, explore mangrove forests, experience fishing with locals… bringing many special impressions to tourists,” Mr. Phuong shared.

After 3 years of operation, Mr. Phuong's tourism model has brought positive signals to the locality.

In 2024, the Con Chim Phuoc Son Ecotour model attracted nearly 1,000 visitors. More importantly, the project has created stable jobs for about 20 local workers - who previously mainly worked in rural areas, small-scale aquaculture with unstable incomes. Now, thanks to the connection with the tourism development model, many households have stable incomes and their lives have gradually improved.

Not only is he a young pioneer in the field of startups, Mr. Dang Duy Phuong is also a typical example in social work. As the Head of Vinh Quang 1 Village, he is always close to and understands the aspirations of the people and proposes many creative solutions in socio -economic development.

As a former Youth Union officer, he always maintained a pioneering and exemplary spirit, especially active in disseminating and educating the law in the locality.

In addition to economic development, Mr. Phuong actively participates in social activities and supports people.

Recently, Mr. Dang Duy Phuong was honored as an Advanced Youth Following Uncle Ho's Teachings of Binh Dinh Province for the period 2023 - 2025. This achievement is not only a worthy reward for personal efforts, but also a testament to the value that the spirit of dedication of young people brings to the community.

Tuy Phuoc District Youth Union Secretary Nguyen Cong Y said that Dang Duy Phuong came from a Youth Union cadre background and actively participated in activities with a high sense of responsibility. "Mr. Phuong's community tourism development model not only brings economic efficiency to his family, but also contributes to arousing the entrepreneurial spirit of the local youth," Mr. Y shared.
