Unique beauty
Every time he has the opportunity to take guests to Ba Be Lake, Mr. Cao Van Duc, a tour guide of Viettreval, takes the opportunity to take a deep breath of the air here. Mr. Duc said that nowhere else has such beautiful natural scenery and a fresh environment as Ba Be Lake and he also feels the spiritual energy of heaven and earth always converging here. For Mr. Duc, Ba Be Lake contains unique values in terms of topography, geology, cultural depth, history and even an old legend that still exists, that is Ba Goa Island located in the middle of the vast waves.
Ba Be Lake is loved by many people as a "green pearl" in the middle of the Viet Bac wilderness, or as a beautiful "princess" nestled at the foot of the majestic Phja Man mountain. With its own beauty and value, Ba Be Lake is the material for many works of poetry, music, painting and is always a peaceful and poetic place to return to in the hearts of nature-loving tourists.

On the deep blue lake, a dugout canoe glides gently through the thin mist, the female tour guide's gentle voice tells the story of Ba Be Lake and the unique values of this place. Ba Be Lake is one of the 20 largest freshwater lakes in the world . In 2011, Ba Be Lake was recognized by the Ramsar Convention Secretariat as the 1,938th Ramsar site (wetland of international importance) in the world and the 3rd Ramsar site in Vietnam... visitors feel lucky to visit this "fairyland".

Bac Kan is not only Ba Be Lake, it is a mountainous province with millions of years of weathering, Mother Nature has created many mysterious, majestic and poetic waterfalls and caves. We invite you to visit these places: Nang Tien Cave, Hua Ma Cave, Puong Cave, Dau Dang Waterfall, Na Dang Waterfall, Tat Ma Waterfall... Listen to the locals tell mysterious stories or join the exploration to partly feel the amazing beauty of Bac Kan's nature.
Priceless value from the environment

Cau River (also known as Nhu Nguyet River, "Quan Ho" River) has a basin area of about 6,030km², with a length of about 290km. It is the most important endogenous river in the Thai Binh River system, of great significance to the Red River Delta and its basin. Originating from Cho Don district, Bac Kan province, passing through Thai Nguyen, the gentle river flows downstream through the provinces of Hanoi, Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong... Not only providing domestic water and agricultural production water for people in the basin, Cau River also contributes to building an agricultural civilization for a large area, witnessing the ups and downs of history, watering the soul and nurturing the sweet Then verses of the upstream region and the lyrical Quan Ho verses at the end of the stream.
The upper reaches of the Cau River include many streams, of which the branch originating from the Phja Khao and Tam Tao ranges has the most water and is the most beautiful. The river not only creates a landscape but also provides a source of water for local agricultural production to be more prosperous.

In the Tay language, Phja Khao means White Mountain. Perhaps the image of clouds covering the mountain top every day is the symbol for the Tay and Nung ethnic people here to call this mountain top with such an iconic name.
As for Tam Tao range, where the mountain has 3 peaks with an altitude of more than 1,500m above sea level, the stream originating from here has many majestic waterfalls. It is still a cool stream, you can clearly see each pebble and the fish swimming leisurely, visitors coming here will be immersed in nature that few places have. To protect the river, local people have joined hands to protect the forest, landscape and environment for thousands of years. If in the downstream, Cau River is crying out for help because of pollution, then in the upstream part of Bac Kan, the water is still clear and clean.
Mr. Pham Cong Lap, Director of Bac Kan Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company confirmed: "The water source from Cau River that our Company uses to supply water to Bac Kan city always ensures quality with standard physical and chemical indicators".

Bac Kan has a natural area of over 4,800km2 , with a forest coverage rate of up to 73.38%. This means that Bac Kan people almost live in the forest, and can see the forest when they open their eyes. Currently, Bac Kan's planned forestry land area is over 405,000ha, of which 28,860ha are special-use forests, 79,730ha are protective forests, and 296,680ha are production forests. During the war, forests "covered the troops, surrounded the enemy", but today forests play an important role in the livelihoods of many households, as well as their environmental value.
As the upstream of Cau River, Lo River, Gam River, Ky Cung River, Bang Giang River, forests in Bac Kan are extremely important in maintaining underground water supply for rivers and limiting flooding in downstream areas.
With a terrain of steep hills and strong fragmentation, forests play a role in limiting soil erosion, protecting production, and reducing the risk of landslides and floods. According to experts, the high forest coverage rate and the large number of primary forests have helped Bac Kan reduce many damages caused by natural disasters.
Slow urbanization, low industrial activity, large forest area, and increased public awareness of air quality are the reasons why Bac Kan's air quality is among the best in the country. The results of air environment monitoring in the province by specialized agencies in 2024 show that Bac Kan's air is still relatively good. Accordingly, the parameters (total suspended dust (TSP), NO2, SO2, CO2, PM10) over 6 periods at 29/29 locations have values within the permissible limits according to QCVN 05: 2023/BTNMT...

The fresh climate is very good for people's health, especially for the elderly. At the same time, it will be a valuable resource that can be exploited to serve the development of eco-tourism and resorts, combined with the abundance of precious medicinal resources to treat and cure diseases for visitors from afar. There is a group of tourists who are doctors and businessmen in Hanoi, for 10 consecutive years, they have chosen Ba Be Lake as their destination on the occasion of the Winter Solstice, with the desire to absorb the fresh "spiritual energy" of heaven and earth.

From July 1, 2025, Thai Nguyen province (new) will officially come into operation on the basis of merging Bac Kan and Thai Nguyen provinces. Accordingly, the administrative unit of Bac Kan no longer exists, but the place name and "brand" of Bac Kan with its thousand-year-old historical and cultural values will remain forever. The unique beauty of culture, natural landscape, and priceless environmental values will be an important resource if we know how to exploit and promote it./.
