Independence Day - Freedom Day is not only a great anniversary, but also an occasion for each generation to calm down, cherish, preserve and spread those precious values.
The historical autumn mark is forever imprinted in my heart!
For Mr. Tran Van Nhan - former Deputy Chairman of the Economic and Budget Committee of the 9th National Assembly, former Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province (old), currently living in Quy Nhon ward, the memory of the autumn of 1945 is always vivid in his mind.

At that time, the young boy Nhan was the Deputy Leader of the Youth Union of Kieu Huyen village, Cat Tan commune, Phu Cat district, Binh Dinh province - now Cat Tan commune, Gia Lai province. Together with the children in the village, he participated in cheering and shouting slogans in support of the Provisional Government, President Ho Chi Minh , and the Viet Minh Front.
Now 91 years old, but every time he recalls those historic days, Mr. Nhan still gets emotional: The seething atmosphere of the August Revolution and National Day, September 2, 1945, is forever engraved in my heart!
Mr. Nhan recalled: At that time, I was still young, but through the stories of Viet Minh cadres, I knew that at 2:00 p.m. on September 2, 1945, on the grand stage at Ba Dinh Square, in front of hundreds of thousands of compatriots nationwide with flags, flowers, banners, and slogans, Uncle Ho, on behalf of the provisional government, solemnly read the Declaration of Independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam - the first worker-peasant state in Southeast Asia.
“Uncle Ho’s voice echoed throughout the country: “Vietnam has the right to enjoy freedom and independence, and in fact has become a free and independent country. The entire Vietnamese people are determined to devote all their spirit and strength, their lives and property to maintain that freedom and independence.” Uncle Ho’s eloquent declaration moved millions of hearts, inspiring the entire nation. As for me, even though I was still young, my immature heart was also filled with pride,” said Mr. Nhan.
According to Mr. Nhan, since the historic National Day on September 2, over the past 80 years, the Party, State and people of Vietnam have continuously fought to protect the nation's independence, sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, self-determination and the people's freedom and happiness with the spirit that "nothing is more precious than independence and freedom". Vietnam has always actively supported and contributed responsibly to peace, equal relations and prosperity in the world.
As for Mr. Nhan, it was the revolutionary achievements of the fall of 1945 that opened a turning point for his entire life. Orphaned by his father at the age of 10, and then by his mother at the age of 14, he grew up in the care and protection of his comrades, teammates and people. The revolution guided him to maturity, to stick with the ideals of the Party and Uncle Ho, and then to become a leading cadre.
He expressed: I am very proud that over the past 80 years, under the Party's flag, our nation has gone from victory to victory. From a poor, invaded country, Vietnam now has a high position, foundation and reputation in the international arena. That is a strong testament to the truth that "nothing is more precious than independence and freedom" that Uncle Ho affirmed.
Overflowing with pride
If for the generation of witnesses who directly participated in the revolution and fought to protect the Fatherland, the memory of National Day September 2 is a day of boiling blood and fire, then for the next generation, that emotion comes from experience and contemplation in today's life.

Mr. Ly Anh Dao (born in 1963), Director of SHB Gia Lai Bank, from Nghe An province, has been attached to the mountainous town of Pleiku since 1984. Every autumn, in the bustling atmosphere of celebrating the country's major holidays, his heart is filled with pride: "Before the National Day, the streets of Pleiku are bright red with red flags with yellow stars. Although the highlands often have unpredictable rain and sunshine, on September 2, the sky is usually clear and sunny, as if nature also shares the joy with people. The fluttering red flags are the most beautiful image, symbolizing millions of hearts turned towards the Fatherland".
Mr. Dao emotionally recalled his childhood memories, when every meal the family had to light and turn off the lights many times in the shelter every time they heard the alarm bell of enemy planes; when he was in first, second, and third grade, his bare feet were not free to run around but had to study in the bomb shelter. The clothes back then were only black and brown to avoid being detected...
It is those arduous memories that help Mr. Dao to appreciate the value of peace today. He shared: For more than 40 years living in the highlands, I have also witnessed the people of the "Country Stand Up" celebrating National Day on September 2nd every year. The peaceful days here - the heroic Central Highlands, the homeland of Hero Nup - are like a precious source of emotions that help me always respect and be grateful to the generations of fathers and brothers who fought and sacrificed to regain independence and freedom for the Fatherland, to unify Vietnam. I believe that this special surge of emotion is not only mine, but also that of any Vietnamese person!
Love the Fatherland through concrete actions
The previous generation wrote history with their blood and bones, so today's young generation has the responsibility to inherit, protect and spread the values of independence and freedom through learning, creativity and dedication.

Ms. Tran Thi Thu Thao (born in 2004, in Group 4, An Phu Ward), currently a third-year student at Ho Chi Minh City Banking University, shared: Since childhood, my parents have told me about their relatives who participated in the resistance war. Every National Day, my father and I hung the national flag in front of the house, feeling an indescribable pride. Growing up, through history lessons, trips to the source, and visits to martyrs' cemeteries, I understand more clearly the great sacrifices to achieve today's independence.
For Ms. Thao and the younger generation, living in peace is a blessing, but also a responsibility: “We - the young people today, always remind ourselves to study well, participate in volunteer and charity activities, take care of families with preferential policies, and show gratitude to those who have contributed to the country. That is the way to show love for the Fatherland, continuing the tradition that our ancestors left behind.”
President Ho Chi Minh’s saying: “Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom” is proudly repeated by Ms. Thao. For her, every day of studying, every dream that is nurtured carries within it the value that many generations have sacrificed to preserve.

Independence Day has thus become a part of collective memory, a “Freedom Day” in the national consciousness, reminding us that today’s peace was exchanged for so much blood and bones, so each generation has the duty to preserve and promote it, joining hands to build our homeland to become more and more beautiful and prosperous.
