Ho Chi Minh City: Exports in the first 6 months of 2025 reached 31.6 billion USD

Ho Chi Minh City's industrial production index (IIP) in the first 6 months of 2025 is estimated to increase by 8.4% over the same period last year; of which, 4 key industrial groups are estimated to increase by 8.3%.

On the morning of June 18, the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City held a press conference to inform about key events and activities in the second quarter of 2025 of the Industry and Trade sector.

At the press conference, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Nguyen Phuong said that in the first 6 months of 2025, industrial production and commercial activities in the city both grew.

Regarding commercial activities, total retail sales of goods in the first 6 months are estimated at VND 304,369 billion, up 13.8% over the same period in 2024.

The city's import and export activities continued to record positive growth signals; the total import and export turnover of the city's enterprises through ports and border gates nationwide is estimated at 56.5 billion USD, an increase of 13.3% over the same period in 2024.

Of which, export turnover is estimated at 31.6 billion USD, up 13.3% (same period increased by 13.1%), import turnover is estimated at 24.9 billion USD, up 13.2% compared to 2024 (same period increased by 4.6%).

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade also informed that the industrial production index (IIP) in the first 6 months of 2025 is estimated to increase by 8.4% over the same period; in which, 4 key industrial groups (pharmaceuticals, mechanics, electronics manufacturing, food and food processing) are estimated to increase by 8.3%. Industrial production still maintains a stable growth rate, showing the recovery and sustainable development of the city's industry.

It is noted that businesses proactively speed up production of orders before the 90-day deadline for US reciprocal tax deferral, in order to limit risks, costs and unfavorable tariffs.

The leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade said that the US's temporary suspension of the new tariff policy creates conditions for manufacturing and export businesses to promote production and complete orders signed before the tariff policy takes effect.

In the coming time, the Department of Industry and Trade of the city will organize outstanding events, including the Ho Chi Minh City Seed, High-tech Agriculture and Ornamental Plants Week 2025, scheduled to take place for 4 days, from June 19 to 22. With the theme: "City Agriculture Associated with ASEAN Integration", the event is expected to attract the participation of 190 units nationwide and businesses from Korea and Indonesia.

Also in June, the conference to review the cooperation program on goods quality control (Green Tick of Responsibility) took place; launching the "Green Tick of Responsibility for E-commerce" with the participation of more than 200 delegates.

In early July, the 2025 Supporting Industry Supplier Search Conference (SFS) will take place at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC), gathering more than 120 small and medium-sized supporting industry manufacturing enterprises in the city, representatives of multinational corporations...

Regarding the plan for peak monitoring, inspection, and handling of smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and intellectual property infringement in the first 6 months of 2025 (from December 15, 2024 to June 14, 2025), the Market Management Department (Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City) said that it had inspected 533 cases, detected and handled 526 violations; the total amount of administrative fines was 19.93 billion VND; collected 15.23 billion VND for the budget; transferred 4 cases with signs of criminality to the investigation agency.

During the peak period of market inspection and control (from May 15 to June 15), the market management force inspected 137 cases, detected and handled 137 violations; the total amount of administrative fines was 4.68 billion VND; and the budget collected 1.33 billion VND.
