On his social media account, the Serbian President said: "I spoke with representatives of the Quinta group (US, UK, Germany, France, Italy) and the European Union (EU). I asked them to do everything in their power and not let (Kosovo Prime Minister Albin) Kurti cause a new war in the Balkans."

Meanwhile, Kosovo's Prime Minister called on the international community to pressure Belgrade to release the three policemen.

Tensions have risen in recent months as Serbia refuses to recognise Kosovo's sovereignty .

On June 14, Serbia announced the arrest of three special forces soldiers of the Kosovo Ministry of Interior on Serbian territory.

In turn, Kosovo has also imposed an entry ban on all vehicles transporting goods and supplies from central Serbia.

On this issue, the European Union (EU) has agreed on sanctions against Kosovo.

The sanctions will gradually increase in intensity with financial and political consequences, starting with the suspension of visits, contacts and high-level events, as well as the EU's financial cooperation with Kosovo, said European Commission (EC) spokesman Peter Stano.

Some measures will take effect immediately.

However, Mr. Stano did not give details about the sanctions that the EU has just passed.
