Mr. Luong Trong Khoa, founder of Vietnam Ginseng Joint Stock Company (Vinapanax), vice president of the Quang Nam Ngoc Linh Ginseng Association (formerly), shared the above at the seminar "Fighting against counterfeit and fake goods - Cleaning the market, protecting trust" held in Ho Chi Minh City.
According to Mr. Khoa, the situation of businesses counterfeiting and mixing themselves is a serious problem. With Ngoc Linh ginseng products, some businesses can mix other types of ginseng such as Lai Chau ginseng, Panax notoginseng... that consumers cannot recognize at all, because current regulations only require testing of food safety indicators and saponin content - while saponin is not a unique active ingredient of Ngoc Linh ginseng.
"To ensure quality, our members proactively test DNA to prove that the product is real Ngoc Linh ginseng. A worrying fact is that on social networks, as long as many people continuously mention "Ngoc Linh ginseng", even if they sell fake products, consumers will easily believe it," Mr. Faculty assessment.
According to this person, to protect themselves as well as consumers, the Ngoc Linh ginseng growing area in Nam Tra My has organized markets to provide real ginseng and build trust with customers.
However, there is still a problem that consumers in Ho Chi Minh City or distant provinces find it difficult to fly to the market to buy directly, so more effective solutions are needed.
"Enterprises processing real Ngoc Linh ginseng are facing many difficulties. Due to limited output, many units do not have enough conditions to build factories so they have to outsource processing, which raises concerns that they may be unfairly punished if the product is found to contain ingredients other than Ngoc Linh ginseng, something that the outsourcing units cannot fully control," Mr. Khoa is worried.
Similarly, although it is a familiar brand to Vietnamese consumers for over 20 years, according to Ms. Pham Bao An - representative of Duy Loi Hammock Company, the company is facing a difficult situation due to continuous counterfeiting, imitation and infringement of intellectual property rights.
Despite its high brand recognition, with its small scale, Duy Loi does not have enough potential to compete effectively, leading to a narrowing market share.
"A worrying issue today is the e-commerce environment. This is a channel that helps businesses reach a wide range of customers, but it is like an online "flea market" where counterfeit and fake goods appear everywhere.
Authorities need to quickly establish channels to receive complaints quickly and conveniently, and at the same time apply strict sanctions," Ms. An emphasized.
Experts say that the lack of control over online sales channels in recent times is the main reason for the proliferation of fake and poor quality goods, greatly affecting users.
In particular, the fact that e-commerce platforms continuously increase discounts makes the cost of selling genuine goods higher, while counterfeit goods bring super profits, creating more favorable conditions for fraudulent traders to thrive.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam, Deputy Director of the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ), said that in the last months of 2025, the department will continue to coordinate with the Department of Industry and Trade of provinces and cities, strengthening the direction of market management forces to synchronously and effectively deploy inspection work.
The Department has also developed and implemented many topics to inspect and strictly handle acts of publicly displaying counterfeit goods, goods of unknown origin, and goods that infringe intellectual property rights.
In particular, focusing on implementing Project 319 on anti-counterfeiting, consumer protection in e-commerce until 2025 and Plan 888 on combating and preventing counterfeit goods, goods of unknown origin, and goods infringing intellectual property rights 2021 - 2025.
