Saving electricity - a solution to adapt to hot weather and rising electricity prices

In recent years, saving electricity has not only been seen as a slogan in the communication campaigns of the Electricity industry, but has also been interested and actively practiced by people. This not only helps reduce electricity costs in daily life and production, but also aims to build a society that consumes energy efficiently, sustainably and under control.

Double pressure

Since the beginning of May, the province has continuously recorded severe heat waves, with many days having temperatures exceeding 38 ^degrees Celsius. Many households are not only facing severe heat but also worrying about skyrocketing electricity bills due to the sudden increase in demand for electric cooling devices, combined with the increase in electricity prices since last May. This double pressure is making many people worried.

Ms. Ho Thi Hong Dung in Ward 9 (Tuy Hoa City) said: Since the beginning of summer, my family has been using air conditioning and fans to cool down. The house is low and stands alone, with all three walls absorbing heat, so by noon it is sweltering hot, and if we don't turn on the air conditioning, we can't stand it. Meanwhile, the children are on summer vacation and are often at home, so the TV, fans, and air conditioning have to run all the time. The family's electricity bill last month nearly doubled.

Similarly, the electricity bill of Mr. Le Thai Hoa's family in Hoa Tri commune (Phu Hoa district) also skyrocketed last May. In previous months, Mr. Hoa's family's electricity bill was only about 700,000 VND, but last month it was nearly 1.1 million VND. According to Mr. Hoa, the increase in electricity bills was partly due to increased demand for electricity, especially during peak hours, and partly due to the electricity price being adjusted up by 4.8% since May 10.

In the context of extreme weather and rising electricity prices, proactively adjusting electricity usage behavior will help families reduce costs, help the Electricity industry reduce load, contribute to ensuring energy security, so that the national electricity system can operate safely, stably and sustainably.

With this situation, the increase in living expenses is evident in today’s families. Small businesses such as coffee shops, hair salons, restaurants, etc. are under even more cost pressure due to the continuous operation of refrigerators, air conditioners, and fans to serve customers.

According to statistics from Phu Yen Electricity Company, the maximum capacity of the whole province in June reached 193.1MW, far exceeding the average threshold in the first months of the year. Meanwhile, the situation of using electricity simultaneously during peak hours also causes the power grid to operate in a state of full load, overload at many times, increasing the risk of incidents, causing a lot of pressure on the electricity industry.

Save electricity effectively

Faced with this situation, many people have proactively changed their electricity usage habits to save more effectively. If in the past, saving electricity was simply associated with turning off the lights and unplugging the plug, now it has been elevated to a life skill. The saving mindset is no longer about limiting usage, but about using it at the right time, in the right way, investing in high-performance equipment, using electricity on a reasonable schedule, avoiding peak hours... These are signs that saving electricity is gradually becoming a civilized way of life.

Ms. Ho Thi Luu in Ward 7 (Tuy Hoa City) shared: “I installed solar power at the beginning of the year. Although the initial investment cost was expensive, I now find it very beneficial. At noon, there is electricity to use, the fan and air conditioner run without the pressure of electricity bills. Every day, from 3-4 pm, my family will turn on the air conditioner in the rooms to cool down the house. Thanks to that, in the evening, I only need to turn on the fan, the monthly electricity bill is no longer a concern for my family.”

In order for people to proactively manage the amount of electricity consumed by electrical appliances in their homes, helping to save electricity most effectively, the Electricity industry has instructed customers to use the feature of estimating the electricity consumption of appliances on the Electricity industry's website. From there, customers can adjust their habits and behaviors to use electricity effectively and economically. Phu Yen Electricity Company has also implemented many measures to transfer loads, strengthen grid maintenance to minimize incidents, promote electricity saving propaganda programs, provide free consultation on electricity saving solutions... to ensure continuous power supply for people.
