Gold Price Forecast
World gold prices fell as the USD index increased. Recorded at 6:00 a.m. on June 23, the US Dollar Index measuring the fluctuations of the greenback against 6 key currencies was at 105,480 points (up 0.24%).
Fourteen Wall Street analysts participated in the Kitco News gold survey this week. The near-term outlook for the precious metal is fairly balanced. Five analysts expect gold prices to rise next week. Five analysts predict prices will fall. The remaining four expect gold to trade sideways next week.
Meanwhile, 209 votes were cast in Kitco’s online poll, with Main Street investors remaining bullish on the precious metal. 114 retail traders, or 55%, predicted gold prices would rise next week.
Another 38, or 18%, predicted the precious metal would trade lower, while 57 respondents, or 27%, predicted sideways prices next week.
Analysts warn that the market is being affected by the People's Bank of China (PBoC, the central bank) suspending gold purchases in May 2024. However, the annual survey of central banks conducted by the World Gold Council (WGC) shows that most people expect gold reserves to increase within 12 months.
Analyst Jim Wyckoff said the precious metals market is looking for direction due to a lack of new fundamental information. The analyst said that gold prices could fluctuate between $2,300 and $2,400 an ounce until the market receives a major catalyst, which may have to wait until July.
New York Federal Reserve Bank President John Williams said interest rates would gradually decline over time, but declined to say when the central bank might begin easing monetary policy.
