Rich activities
On hot summer days, the atmosphere at Hai Phong City Library is full of colors. The library's reading space is quiet, airy, and scientific documents are arranged scientifically and are easy to find. Mai Hong Nguyen, a student at Ngo Quyen High School who has just completed the national high school graduation exam, said: "The library is an ideal place for students to review. Here there is a quiet space, spacious desks, easy-to-find documents, and I can borrow books quickly. The librarians are also enthusiastic in guiding, so I feel very comfortable sitting and studying here."
At the facility at No. 1 Chuong Duong Street, Le Thanh Nghi Ward, right at the beginning of summer, the “Summer Reading Festival for Children” with the theme “Summer fun with books - Illuminate knowledge” created a vibrant atmosphere. The program included games to learn knowledge through books, the experiential activity “I am a librarian”, instructions on making recycled items, a “Green Library” corner for young readers to discuss the content of the books they have just read, and the activity “Drawing pictures from books” to help children express their creativity.

At the facility on Lach Tray Street, Gia Vien Ward, children's book clubs maintained since 2021 continue to attract readers. In June and July, the children's book club held activities on the topics "Home Alone - Smart response when encountering fire or storm" and "Pham Ngoc Da - His name will never fade". Excitedly participating in the activities of this club, Bui Minh Anh, a student of class 4A1, Vinh Niem Primary School, shared: "Through the club, I learned a lot of useful knowledge and life skills. The activities of learning while playing help me love reading more to study better".
This year, the library cooperated with the Sports and Tourism Publishing House to organize the program “Super Reading Skills” attracting more than 50 students to participate, sharing with readers the secrets of reading quickly, remembering for a long time, and understanding deeply. Parents and students highly appreciated these innovations.
Ms. Luu Ha Chi, in An Duong ward, said: "Although my house is quite far from the library, I still regularly let my children participate in activities and borrow books here. The city library organizes many rich activities, helping children develop reading skills and grasp content faster. Fortunately, the children love books more and more, proactively looking for books to read."

In addition to the clubs, both facilities simultaneously implemented major programs such as the "Reading Culture Ambassador 2025" Contest launched by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Hai Phong Children's Contest to promote storytelling of books and newspapers "Hai Phong - The Blooming Seasons of Flowers", a themed painting contest and a painting exhibition right at the library; an exhibition of books and newspapers on historical and cultural topics; a thematic talk on the occasion of Vietnamese Family Day with the theme "Loving Family"...
Towards a modern digital library

From the specific activities, it is possible to see clear changes at both facilities of Hai Phong Library during this summer. However, according to comrade Nguyen Thi Hau, Deputy Director of Hai Phong City Library, after the merger, the unit still encountered some difficulties due to the geographical distance between the two facilities, the database and management software were not synchronized, causing difficulties in implementing common operations.
To overcome this, Hai Phong Library has developed a plan to implement many synchronous solutions. First, it will send staff to attend training courses to improve their skills in organizing library activities and services. Next, it will adjust service hours and implementation methods to ensure that both facilities operate in a coordinated manner. In terms of resources, the library will supplement documents from official sources, suitable for many ages, and at the same time, renovate facilities to create a more favorable reading environment.

In terms of technology, the library aims to improve quality, moving towards providing home book lending and returning services. Hai Phong City Library has registered to develop a digital library project to be implemented in the period 2025 - 2030. Promotion and communication work is also focused on, with the socialization of document sources, expansion of clubs, circulation of books and newspapers to the grassroots level and organization of thematic mobile libraries in schools.
In August, the library held a number of activities to celebrate major events and holidays of the city and the country, such as: displaying books and newspapers with the theme "Autumn of independence and aspiration for prosperity", "Immortal spirit of August Revolution and National Day September 2"; thematic exchange "80 years of August Revolution and National Day September 2: The stature and significance of the era".
With diverse activities and specific solutions, Hai Phong City Library aims to improve service quality, better meet readers' needs, and contribute to maintaining and developing reading culture in the community.
