Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh receives WHO Director General

According to VNA special correspondent, on July 6 local time, in Rio de Janeiro city, Brazil, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Pleased to meet again with Mr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated and thanked the WHO for its effective efforts and contributions in supporting Vietnam to be one of the few countries that have successfully fought the COVID-19 pandemic and recovered quickly after the pandemic, and affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to developing cooperation with WHO to ensure public health.

Sharing that Vietnam is focusing on building a grassroots healthcare system, paying more attention to helping people prevent diseases, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam always closely monitors and regularly consults recommendations from WHO and other international on the epidemic situation in the world in recent times.

In that spirit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested WHO to continue to promote its role, take the lead in researching the disease and epidemic situation, provide timely assessments and warnings, and further promote international cooperation in the fields of health and disease prevention. The Prime Minister requested WHO to send experts to advise Vietnam on perfecting its policies and institutions, developing the groundswell health system, improving the environment and people's lives, and creating further changes for sustainable public health development.

The WHO Director-General agreed with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's proposals, highly appreciated Vietnam's policies and efforts in the right direction in responding to the epidemic, developing healthcare foundations, and providing universal health care, and affirmed his readiness to support and advise Vietnam as requested by the Prime Minister.

The two sides agreed to strengthen coordination between Vietnam and WHO in the international community's joint efforts for human safety and health as well as joint efforts in effectively preventing and combating epidemics.
