Double valedictorian
On August 29, Hanoi Medical University held a graduation ceremony for 726 medical students in 2025. The 2019-2025 medical course of Hanoi Medical University includes 4 training majors: Medicine, Traditional Medicine, Preventive Medicine, and Dentistry.

Ngo Thu Ha was honored to become the school's valedictorian with a total score of 8.42/10. Six years ago, Ha was a former student majoring in Mathematics at Hung Vuong High School for the Gifted, Phu Tho .
In the 2019 National High School Exam (in 2020, this exam was converted into a high school graduation exam), Ha achieved a total score of 29.8 points in the 3 subjects of group B00 (Math, Chemistry, Biology), of which Math: 9.8, Chemistry and Biology both got 10 points. With this score, Ngo Thu Ha was the national valedictorian of group B00 and the valedictorian of Hanoi Medical University that year.

Ha said that when she entered high school, she had already decided to pursue a career in medicine, so when she registered her wishes, she only registered two wishes: the first wish was to study general medicine and the second wish was to study dentistry at Hanoi Medical University. Her parents are retired civil servants and did not pursue a career in medicine, but seeing their daughter's determination, they were very supportive.
Journey of never-ending effort
Ha received a scholarship to encourage learning in 8/12 semesters, in addition to non-budgetary scholarships: Mitsubishi Scholarship for the 2019-2020, 2020-2021 school years; Da Huong Scholarship for the 2021-2022, 2022-2023 school years; Talent Development Scholarship for the 2024-2025 school year; in addition, she received a certificate of merit from the Principal for the valedictorian of the 2019-2020; 2020-2021; 2021-2022 school years.

The 2019-2025 course of Ha and her friends is quite special because it covers the period when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out nationwide. Recalling that day, Ha shared that in her second and third years, most of the theory lessons had to be learned online, some practical lessons were taught in person but still had to follow infection prevention principles. She was also quarantined for 2 weeks and then had to go to make up classes to finish the course in time. “Those days, I also found it difficult, but at that time I thought that if everyone could learn, I could learn too, and I never thought of giving up,” Ha said.
During clinical practice at hospitals, patients are usually accompanied by family members to help with procedures, take them for X-rays, etc., but one time when Ha was on duty at the emergency department, a rather elderly patient (about 60-70 years old) took a taxi to come by himself, without any family members.
The patient was very tired and in pain at that time, and had no relatives around. At that time, she thought that her family members might also fall into the same situation. So Ha supported the patient to the best of her ability, the patient recovered and was able to leave the hospital. At that time, it was difficult to describe the feeling, but it was a small joy and a very happy ending. Those images always made Ha remind herself to improve her expertise, and at the same time cultivate tolerance and empathy.
The new general practitioner valedictorian hopes to pass the upcoming residency exam smoothly and be qualified to study surgery. This is a field of study that can be said to be quite “unique” for women, but Ha realizes that there are also many female surgeons and Ha likes that.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Tu, Rector of Hanoi Medical University, shared that the 2019-2025 medical course is one of the most special courses in the school's training history. The first 3 most difficult years for students are also the 3 years of the COVID-19 pandemic. Along with that, for the first time, the medical doctor innovation program is applied at the school.
“We are happy and proud to have the first product of medical doctor training innovation, all students have graduated,” said Professor Nguyen Huu Tu.
