At the opening ceremony of the new school year and new course of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy today, September 5, Tran Duc Tai, representing more than two thousand new students, shared his thoughts.

Tai said that the moment he officially became a student of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City was the result of a process of continuous efforts, not only of himself but of all new students. Tran Duc Tai, a new medical student at Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, is the only valedictorian of group B nationwide with a perfect score of 30 and will become the valedictorian of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2025.

“But no matter where they come from, they all carry a common belief and aspiration to serve people's health and contribute to the country's healthcare career,” Tai said.

Choosing Medicine and Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Tai understands that the road ahead is not easy. There will be times when the pressure is heavy, there will be moments of confusion, even stumbling. Only 9.4% of medical and pharmaceutical students have excellent academic performance

Associate Professor Ngo Quoc Dat, Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, said that in 2025, the school will open a new major in Social Work. To date, the school has 16 undergraduate majors.

The school is currently training 11,217 students. In the 2024-2025 school year, the percentage of excellent students is 9.4%, good 20.7%, good 41.6%, average 18.8% and poor 9.6%.

In 2025, the school recruited 2,576 students but 17,975 candidates registered for admission, of which 2,720 candidates were admitted and 2,589 candidates confirmed their enrollment (reaching a ratio of admitted students/quota of 100.5%).

Tran Duc Tai, the only valedictorian of Block B in the country and valedictorian of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2025, received a 100% scholarship for the 2025-2026 school year.

For postgraduates, the school has just opened 2 new majors at the doctoral level: Anesthesia and Resuscitation, Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. Currently, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy has 169 majors/specializations at 5 training levels.

In 2025, there will be 5,097 candidates taking the entrance exam for master's, doctoral, level I specialist, and level II specialist training programs. However, only 2,171 students at all levels have the capacity to meet training requirements, accounting for 42.6%.

The successful candidates fully meet the admission criteria as prescribed and are within the training quota recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training as well as the Ministry of Health . The admission rate for postgraduate training is over 98%.
