Established in 1957, the Highland Children's School and the Workers' and Peasants' Cultural Supplementary School (the predecessor of today's Viet Bac Highland Secondary School) were born with the special mission of caring for the education career, training cadres, and nurturing the future generations of ethnic minorities.

During nearly 7 decades of formation and development, the school has increasingly affirmed its pioneering position in the system of Ethnic Boarding and University Preparatory Schools nationwide. Not only is it the cradle of training ethnic minority students, Viet Bac High School is also known as a school with a strong national cultural identity.

Leaders of the Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religions and the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province attended the opening ceremony at Viet Bac High School for Ethnic Minorities.

In the 2024-2025 school year, Viet Bac Ethnic Minority High School continues to affirm its position as the national leader in the quality of training ethnic minority students with 18 national excellent students; 2 Gold Medals for international scientific research; 344 provincial excellent student awards, including 8 First prizes; 2 topics won the Promising Prize of the National Science and Technology Competition; 12 prizes and Second prize of the entire delegation of the National Defense - Security Competition of Thai Nguyen province; 4 prizes (including First prize) at the STEAM and AI Application Competition of Thai Nguyen province in 2025

In particular, the school continues to be the leading unit nationwide in the number of ethnic minority students admitted to the Party, with 39 new Party members in the last school year. This is an impressive number and a clear demonstration of the maturity in political awareness, ideology and courage of today's young generation in the highlands.

At the opening ceremony of the 2025-2026 school year, Teacher Luc Thuy Hang shared: Entering the new school year, the entire education sector is implementing the theme "Discipline - Creativity - Breakthrough - Development".

Thoroughly grasping that spirit, teachers and students of Viet Bac High School for Ethnic Minorities are determined to promote the 68-year tradition of construction and development; continue to innovate teaching, management and training methods; maintain discipline and order; and at the same time promote the cultural identity of ethnic groups so that every day at school is truly a happy day.

With the loving heart of “All for the beloved ethnic students” of the staff and teachers; the efforts of the students along with the special attention of the Party and the State, the Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religions, of all levels, sectors and localities, we believe that Viet Bac Highland High School will continue to reap successes, strongly promoting the role of a school rich in tradition.

Viet Bac High School always focuses on preserving and promoting the cultural identity of ethnic groups.

At the opening ceremony, Minister of Ethnic Minorities and Religions Dao Ngoc Dung emphasized that since the country gained independence, ethnic minorities have always been an inseparable part, present in all regions of the country.

According to the Minister, ethnic minorities not only fulfill their duties like all other citizens, but also shoulder a noble mission - to be the "fence" of the nation, the force that protects and defends the border.

" Therefore, over the years, the Party and State have always paid special attention and issued a series of preferential policies for ethnic minorities. Up to now, there have been 138 policies to care for, improve the lives and create development conditions for ethnic minorities," the Minister summarized.

Entering the new school year, the Minister of Ethnic Minorities and Religions hopes that students will always strive and study hard, because according to him, "only by studying can one become a good person".
He emphasized that learning is not only about cultural knowledge, but also about the responsibility of preserving the identity, voice and language of one's people.
" You need to consider studying as your top priority. Besides studying culture, you must focus on applying information technology and improving foreign languages. This is also the school's responsibility, because only when you are good at technology and proficient in foreign languages, will you have a solid foundation to go further and make more progress," the Minister advised.

Viet Bac High School will continue to be the "leading bird" in the national boarding education system.

Today, Viet Bac High School is not only a place to foster knowledge, but also a symbol of solidarity, belief and aspiration of ethnic minorities in the northern mountainous region.
