According to CBS News, Colombian Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, a potential candidate in next year's Colombian presidential election, is recovering after successful surgery after being assassinated during a campaign rally in Bogota on the evening of June 7.

Mr Uribe, 39, was addressing supporters in the capital when a gunman shot him twice in the head and once in the knee. He was airlifted to hospital in critical condition and underwent surgery.
"He passed the first surgery," Bogota Mayor Carlos Fernando Galan told local media.
Mr Uribe's wife said her husband was in stable condition after surgery. "He fought very well during the first surgery. He fought for his life," Mr Uribe's wife said.
The Attorney General's Office, which is investigating the shooting, said a 15-year-old boy was arrested at the scene with a gun. Two other people — a man and a woman — were also injured in the shooting.
After the shooting, Mr Uribe's conservative Democratic Centre Party issued a statement, calling it an "unacceptable act of violence".
The Colombian government has announced a reward for the arrest of all those responsible for the assassination. Authorities have opened an investigation into the incident.
"Respect life, that is the red line," Colombian President Gustavo Petro said in a message posted on his X account.
In a statement on the evening of June 7, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the US "strongly condemns the attempt to assassinate Senator Miguel Uribe".
