Cua Lan fishing port (Quang Thinh) is always bustling with boats coming and going these days. Among the boats docking to sell seafood are fishermen busy preparing their fishing gear for a new trip to sea. Among them is Mr. Bui Van Cu, who has been involved in the sea for decades. Being involved with the sea has helped me have a prosperous life, buying 2 fishing boats with a total capacity of nearly 500CV, worth billions of VND, creating jobs for 8 workers with an income of about 150 million VND/person/year. I think I will be involved with the sea for the rest of my life, not only to make a living and develop the economy, but also to be proud of contributing to protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland". In addition to directly participating in fishing at sea, Mr. Cu is also the captain of the Nam Thinh self-managed fishing boat team supporting each other at sea with more than 30 members who are boat owners in Quang Thinh village. Lieutenant Colonel Le Xuan Hoa, Political Commissar of Cua Lan Border Post, said: Over the years, the model of the self-managed fishing boat team operating at Cua Lan fishing port has united and supported members to go out to sea, stick to the sea, and protect the homeland's sea. The participating members are not only responsible for helping and protecting each other in their professional activities, maintaining security and order at ports and moorings, and effectively exploiting aquatic resources, but also proactively grasping information and activities related to security and order at sea, promptly informing the authorities about the situation of fishing ground disputes and activities violating the sovereignty of foreign vessels; supporting the rescue of many fishermen in distress and fishing vessels in trouble at sea; coordinating with the Border Guard and military forces to conduct drills on natural disaster prevention and control and search and rescue.
