In particular, Vietnam Digital Traffic Joint Stock Company (VDTC) and Military Industry - Telecommunications Group ( Viettel ) said that the number of vehicle owners who have converted to new toll collection accounts is about 40% of the total number of vehicles using ePass services.
Similarly, VETC Automatic Toll Collection Company Limited said that currently only 1.7 million out of 3.5 million vehicles using the service of this service provider have made the switch.
Thus, up to now, the whole country still has more than 3 million vehicles that have not converted their accounts, and are at risk of not being able to pass through toll stations if they do not convert before October 1.
According to service providers, recently, the communication about the regulations on converting toll collection accounts to vehicle owners has been stepped up, with text messages guiding each vehicle owner. Service providers have also prepared an infrastructure system to ensure the conversion, diversifying payment methods to link with traffic accounts. However, many vehicle owners are still not interested in the conversion.
The Vietnam Road Administration is directing toll collection service providers to review the number of vehicles with transactions in August and September that have not yet made the switch.
A representative of the Vietnam Road Administration said that the biggest challenge now is connecting accounts with payment methods of 130,000 transport businesses.
To make a transaction, the business account needs confirmation from both the director and the chief accountant. This slows down the process and speed of processing toll payment transactions.
Currently, no payment intermediary unit has deployed e-wallets for businesses. The Vietnam Road Administration and toll collection service providers are coordinating with banks to soon have a mechanism to overcome the problem.
