8th ASEAN Sports Ministers Meeting and 16th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Sports: Preparations are in full swing

To ensure that the preparations for the 8th ASEAN Sports Ministers Meeting (AMMS 8) and the 16th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Sports (SOMS 16) go smoothly and on schedule, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Sports Administration Le Thi Hoang Yen had a working session with relevant units on the afternoon of September 16. Up to this point, all preparations for the two meetings are entering the final stage.

Working scene.

According to the report from the Office of the Vietnam Sports Administration, the basic legal procedures have been completed. The decision to establish the Organizing Committee and 03 specialized sub-committees has been issued along with detailed working regulations. Logistics work is being urgently deployed, the venue has been determined and the bidding process is also underway. The Office of the Vietnam Sports Administration is working with transportation providers to finalize the final plan. Along with that, the volunteer force, reception and finance work are being arranged synchronously.

In terms of expertise, the International Cooperation Department of the Vietnam Sports Administration Office has closely coordinated with the ASEAN Secretariat to unify the program content. Within the framework of the conference, many notable activities are expected to take place, including the signing ceremony of anti-doping agreements and discussions on ASEAN cooperation projects with Japan and China. At the Conference, a number of member countries will also report on the work they have implemented.

At the meeting, the representative of the International Cooperation Department also expressed his wish for closer coordination and further support from the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to best prepare for welcoming delegates as well as implementing some contents throughout the event.

Regarding communication work, the Sports Information and Communication Center said: the assigned tasks are being carried out as planned. Two promotional videos at the Conference are being produced and are expected to be completed in early October. The event identity has also been completed for submission to the leaders of the Vietnam Sports Administration for approval. The Center has also developed a plan to organize an international press conference, scheduled for early October to spread the message about the Conference. For the photo exhibition, the Center will coordinate with relevant units to implement.

Deputy Director Le Thi Hoang Yen highly appreciated the efforts of individuals and groups who actively carried out assigned tasks towards the common goal of successfully organizing the event, leaving a good impression on the attendees. Deputy Director Le Thi Hoang Yen also emphasized the need to strengthen coordination between units to speed up progress, ensuring all work is completed on time.

This ASEAN Sports Ministers Meeting is not only an important diplomatic event but also an opportunity to affirm the role of sports in promoting sustainable development. That is also the orientation emphasized by Deputy Director Le Thi Hoang Yen at the meeting.

In 2025, Vietnam will host the 8th ASEAN Sports Ministers Meeting (AMMS 8) and the 16th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Sports (SOMS 16). SOMS 16 will take place from October 13 to 15 and AMMS 8 will take place from October 15 to 17.

With the theme: "Orientation of sports contributing to sustainable development", the Conference will take place with the main exchange content including the contents in the ASEAN Action Program on sports, focusing on professional sports development, sports science, sports economics, gender equality in sports, preservation and promotion of traditional sports, establishment of the ASEAN High Performance Sports Center, sports and health, sports towards the millennium development goals; building development directions, promoting ASEAN cooperation in the field of sports; Promoting sports cooperation between ASEAN member countries with dialogue countries China, Japan, Korea and international organizations....

The conference is expected to be attended by international delegates including: Ministers/Deputy Ministers of Sports or Heads of Sports Agencies of ASEAN member countries and Timor Leste (ASEAN observer country), ASEAN senior officials on sports and sports representatives of ASEAN countries, Timor Leste; ASEAN Secretariat; delegations of Ministry leaders, senior officials in charge of sports of Japan and China; representatives of international organizations, relevant ASEAN dialogue countries.
