High School Graduation Exam 2025 Plan Announced This Afternoon November 29

The press conference to announce the Plan for organizing the Exam and recognizing high school graduation from 2025 will take place on the afternoon of November 29. This is a content that always attracts public attention because 2025 is the first year that students will graduate from the 2018 GeneralEducation Program.

Previously, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) had a draft plan for organizing exams and considering recognition of high school graduation from 2025, sent to the Deputy Prime Minister. In the draft information, the MOET said that it had asked for opinions from localities and experts on the number of subjects suitable for the high school graduation exam according to 3 options: 4+2, 3+3 and 2+2.

Based on objective analysis, comments and core principles in the process of developing the Exam Plan, the Ministry has recommended and proposed the high school graduation exam from 2025 according to the 2+2 plan. According to this plan, each candidate will take 4 subjects, including compulsory exams in Literature and Mathematics and can choose 2 subjects in the 12th grade program (Foreign Language, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economic and Legal Education, Information Technology, Technology).

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, this is the most compact and least burdensome exam organization option, and at the same time, this exam option will resolve the imbalance of choosing social sciences over natural sciences as in recent years. In addition, choosing the 2+2 exam option has the advantage of reducing exam pressure for students and reducing costs for students' families and society (candidates only have to take 4 subjects instead of 6 as at present). The number of exam sessions is also reduced by a few sessions.

At the same time, the Ministry of Education and Training also consulted with officials and teachers of high schools across the country, and asked for opinions from leaders of Departments of Education and Training on the remaining two options in the proposal.

Option 1 (Option 4+2): Candidates must take 6 subjects, including 4 compulsory subjects (Literature, Math, Foreign Language, History) and 2 subjects that candidates choose from the remaining subjects in grade 12.

Candidates studying the GDTX program (these candidates do not have to take the compulsory Foreign Language subject) must take 5 subjects, including 3 compulsory subjects (Literature, Math, History) and 2 subjects that candidates choose from the remaining subjects studied in grade 12.

Option 2 (Option 3+2): Candidates must take 5 subjects, including 3 compulsory subjects (Literature, Math, Foreign Language) and 2 subjects that candidates choose from the remaining subjects studied in grade 12 (including History).

Candidates studying the GDTX program (this group of candidates does not have to take the compulsory Foreign Language subject) must take 4 subjects, including 2 compulsory subjects (Literature, Math) and 2 subjects that candidates choose from the remaining subjects studied in grade 12.

According to the affirmation of the Ministry of Education and Training, the high school graduation exam from 2025 will continue to be implemented in a strongly decentralized manner, with localities taking full responsibility for organizing the exam in their provinces and cities under their management authority.
