Virtual candidates increase sharply, universities have not yet determined the 2025 benchmark

After the first virtual filtering day, with the "huge" number of candidates registering for university admission this year, the virtual filtering system encountered a "virtual overlapping virtual" situation, so schools could not determine the benchmark score.

This morning, August 18, universities continued to upload the second round of admission results to the general admission system of the Ministry of Education and Training (admission results of all admission methods of the school).

On the same afternoon, schools will download the results of processing the second application from the general admission system and upload the results of the third admission to the system.

The rate of virtual candidates in the admission group has increased sharply, with many types of virtual candidates.

According to MSc. Cu Xuan Tien - Head of Admissions and Student Affairs Department of University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University), last night after the results of the virtual filtering of the group and the nationwide virtual filtering were available, it showed that the virtual ratio in the group (the Southern admission group) increased a lot compared to 2024.

"In particular, the number of virtual candidates after the first virtual filtering round in the group is much higher than last year, while the virtual rate on the Ministry of Education and Training's system is low compared to the group.

The reason for this situation may be that this year, all admission methods are combined into a common admission, so a candidate will have many admission scores (corresponding to different methods).

The high number of candidates registering this year has led to a much higher rate of virtual admissions in the same school and virtual admissions in the same group compared to last year.

Besides, eliminating early admission also makes candidates register more wishes to prepare, contributing to increasing the virtual number of candidates," Mr. Tien commented.

According to Mr. Tien, there are the following types of virtuality: virtuality within the same method in a school (for example, virtual high school graduation exam score consideration method between subject groups); virtuality between methods within the same school; virtuality between schools in a group (Southern group or Northern group or group of independent schools); nationwide virtuality (between schools nationwide).

Representatives of the admissions departments of some other member schools of Ho Chi Minh City National University said that yesterday the general admissions system of the ministry was suspended and it took a while to get up and running. However, the situation of virtual filtering by group and virtual filtering nationwide on the first day was relatively stable.

Currently, schools are processing admission requests at school, in groups and on the ministry's common system for the next virtual screening rounds.

MSc. Le Trong Vinh - Deputy Head of Training Department, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University), said: "The admission score data has not yet converged. Today, schools continue to adjust, there are many fake candidates. In this situation, the scores will fluctuate a lot. The first day of virtual filtering has just ended, so it is only exploratory in nature."

Still running virtual filtering many times so the benchmark has not appeared yet

Regarding the determination of the expected benchmark score, Mr. Tien said that like every year, the first two virtual filtering days certainly have not yet converged the score data. Most schools will call it a survey.

"Due to the sharp increase in fake candidates, schools will also have to work harder and currently cannot accurately predict the expected admission score. But in general, there are three groups: the group of hot majors has an increasing trend, the not-so-hot majors have a slight decrease, and the middle group fluctuates up and down depending on the major," Mr. Tien shared.

According to Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan - Head of Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, up to now, there have been two virtual filtering sessions for the Southern group and one virtual filtering session nationwide. Therefore, the benchmark scores have not been revealed yet and schools have to gradually adjust them.

"At our school, in general, as predicted, the admission score based on high school graduation exam scores will decrease by an average of 1-1.5 points, depending on the major. Meanwhile, the score based on academic records may increase," Mr. Nhan predicted.

Regarding the conversion of admission scores, Mr. Nhan said that according to the ministry's regulations, schools must announce the conversion function according to the percentile method before organizing admissions.

The standard scores between the following methods are converted depending on the regulations of each school and this also affects the increase or decrease in scores for each admission method at the school. Schools also organize their own admissions to determine the expected standard scores and upload the general admission results.

Admission scores will fluctuate

Meanwhile, some schools released initial information predicting standard scores with many fluctuations after virtual filtering.

A representative of the Vietnam Aviation Academy said that the benchmark score decreased compared to the expected score after virtual filtering, but the school has not yet determined how much the decrease was.

MSc. Pham Thai Son - Director of the Admissions and Communications Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, said: "The school set the expected admission score equal to 2024, but through processing the wishes, many majors expected to be admitted were lower than the target and some majors such as logistics, marketing, and international business had more students than the target.

The school is adjusting the expected benchmark score, for majors such as logistics, marketing, international business... increasing by 1 point, which means the score is around 24 - 25.25. However, the exact benchmark score must wait until the end of the final round of virtual nationwide filtering."

According to MSc. Truong Thi Ngoc Bich - Director of the Information and Communication Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance, after the first day of virtual filtering, the school currently has more than 7,000 candidates achieving the floor level or higher.

The expected benchmark score will fluctuate by about 1 point depending on the subject group and admission method. For the assessment based on the capacity of Ho Chi Minh City National University, the expected benchmark is 600 points; VSAT 225 points.
