Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Mr. PH, one of the customers who used the service at Bistro Fou bar, said that the bar charged him an additional 20% of the bill without knowing what it was and without being informed in advance.
On the evening of June 21, Mr. H. and a group of friends went to a bar to listen to music and enjoy the experience. Here, the customer ordered combo 7 for 2.07 million VND. This service package includes 10 cans of beer, 2 cans of soft drinks, beef jerky, a large fruit plate, mineral water and cold towels.
Then when paying the bill, the customer was surprised to be charged an additional 20% service fee. Plus 10% VAT, the total bill the customer had to pay was nearly 2.7 million VND.
Mr. H. wondered about the extra charge, and the staff explained that the bar had extra performances, so they hoped customers would understand.

After that, the group of guests continued to sit and ordered a fruit plate and a package of beef jerky. The beef jerky was priced at 225,000 VND and the fruit plate at 400,000 VND.
When he got home and checked the bill, Mr. H. was surprised to see that the following two bills were both charged an additional 30% service fee. The total of the two bills was 315,000 VND (package of beef jerky) and 560,000 VND (fruit plate).
Frustrated with the restaurant's confusing cost calculation, Mr. H. reflected on his experience.
"I have been to many bars but have never seen a place that charges such an unclear service fee and does not inform customers in advance. Even if there are bars that invite famous singers, they do not charge an additional 30% for the service," Mr. H. was indignant.

The guest's post received a lot of interaction. Many opinions said that customers can accept being charged an additional % for service when going to a bar, but most importantly, they need to be informed in advance by the staff.
"If customers know they have to pay 30% more but still use the service, there is no problem. However, if the restaurant is unclear from the beginning, customers will feel trapped," said an account named Hung Cuong.
Sharing with Dan Tri reporters earlier, the owner of the Bistro Fou bar business admitted that there was a situation of surcharges for services. However, this person affirmed that this must be agreed upon between the staff and the customers. Regarding some of the recent cases, the representative of the Bistro Fou bar said "maybe because the bar was crowded, the staff forgot to tell the customers in advance".
According to this person, to avoid similar situations, the restaurant plans to post a notice on the screen outside. Accordingly, customers entering the restaurant will receive free tickets and an additional 20% surcharge.
Speaking with Dan Tri reporter, representative of Bai Chay ward (Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province) said that they have grasped the information of the incident and handled it according to the procedure.
"We have invited the business owner to work, reminded him to rectify the situation and requested a specific report to the ward. When we have specific information, we will notify him later," said a ward representative.
