Two more major schools add IELTS scores, giving candidates an extra "lifeline"

(Dan Tri) - Two major universities in Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law (ULAW) and University of Economics and Law (UEL), have announced a policy of adding points to candidates with IELTS certificates when considering admission in 2025.

In 2025, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law plans to enroll 3,350 students, an increase of about 150 students compared to last year. The school will apply a policy of adding 2-3 points for candidates with IELTS certificates from 5.5 to 7.5 when considering admission combined with 6 semesters' transcripts.

In addition to traditional subject groups, the school added 5 new groups of subjects for admission, combining literature, math, economic and legal education or foreign languages.

In addition to direct admission, direct admission and priority admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training , the school also considers 4 groups: Combining academic transcripts with foreign language certificates or SAT scores; students from high schools on the priority list of Ho Chi Minh City National University; considering V-SAT exam scores; 2025 high school graduation exam scores. Compared to previous years, the V-SAT entrance exam scores are used for the first time.

For combined admission, candidates need to have an IELTS certificate of at least 5.5, TOEFL iBT 65 points, DELF French certificate level B1 or achieve 300 points in each skill on the French proficiency test (TCF).

For Japanese, candidates need to have a JLPT certificate at least level 3/6 (N3). If using SAT scores, the requirement for application is 1,150/1,600 or higher. In addition, the average score of 6 semesters of 3 subjects in the admission group must be 22.5 or higher.

The combined admission score is the total score of the three subjects plus bonus points and priority points. In which, foreign language certificates and SAT will be converted into bonus points, similar to last year.

For candidates from high schools on the priority list of Ho Chi Minh City National University, the condition is to study for 3 years at the school, have good academic results each year, and have an average score of 3 years and 3 subjects in the admission group of 24.5 or higher.

The school does not use the results of exemption from foreign language exams in the high school graduation exam, and does not convert international certificates into foreign language scores to include in the admission combination.

University of Economics and Law (UEL) announced that it will apply a policy of adding 0.5-1.5 admission points to candidates with IELTS certificate of 5.0 or higher.

This year, the school will recruit 2,700 students through 3 methods: Direct recruitment, priority recruitment according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, Ho Chi Minh City National University; Considering high school graduation exam scores; Considering capacity assessment exam scores.

Priority for direct admission is given to the best students of high schools recommended by the principal; students from 149 high schools according to regulations of Ho Chi Minh City National University; candidates with international baccalaureate (IB) or A-level, SAT, ACT certificates.

Candidates need to submit proof of English score from June 15 to July 5. The school notes that the bonus points and English certificate points conversion cannot be applied at the same time.

Along with the announcement of enrollment information, the school said that the tuition fee for the 2025 enrollment is 31.5 million VND per year for the Vietnamese program, an increase of 4 million compared to last year. For the English program, the tuition fee is 65 million VND, an increase of more than 7 million.

In the 2025 admission season, the highlight is that schools are giving much priority to English. Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine is using the English subject combination for the first time with the combination A01 (math, physics, English) and B08 (math, biology, English) for admission.

However, the school does not use the results of the foreign language exemption in the high school graduation exam, and does not convert international certificates into English scores to include in the admission combination.

For majors using a combination of subjects including English, candidates must have a high school graduation exam score in English in 2025.

This year, the school enrolls 1,920 students for 12 majors. The majors with the highest enrollment quota are medicine with 790 students and nursing with 400 students.

The school enrolls students in two ways: based on the 2025 high school graduation exam scores and direct admission for candidates who are subject to the regulations in the enrollment regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training (Article 8) and Lao and Cambodian students studying abroad with scholarships from Ho Chi Minh City.

In method 1, the school notes that it will not use reserved scores from high school exams in previous years.

Compared to the plan in October 2024, the school will eliminate the method of considering test scores to assess capacity and thinking; consider international certificates or combine certificates with high school graduation exam scores.
