Her parents quietly printed this photo, framed it and hung it solemnly in their family's coffee shop to "flex" (show off) their daughter's enthusiasm.
Surprised to see parents "flex" their daughter
Dong An Thu (24 years old, HCMC) "caused a storm" not only because of her parents' pride but also because of her "impressive" academic achievements. An Thu is not only a university valedictorian and master's degree holder, but also a personal stylist for famous artists. The story of this young girl has become a source of inspiration for patriotism, will to rise up and national pride.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, An Thu said she was very surprised when she saw her parents print her photo when she participated in the Southern Female Guerrilla Block at the Parade, the parade to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2), framed it and hung it right in the coffee shop she owns.
"I was so surprised! I really wanted my parents to go to Hanoi to see it, but because of their health problems, they couldn't go.
Normally, my parents only call to encourage me to eat and rest. That day, I was taking a nap when I received a text message from my parents with a large printed picture, hanging in the shop. I was both amused and happy," An Thu confided. She understood that it was her parents' way of showing their pride and support for their daughter.

An Thu herself also considered this a great honor. She shared that since watching the parade celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South, she was completely captivated and determined to register for the exam when she had the chance. With a height of over 1m65 and stable health, she was lucky to be selected.
"At that time, I was very happy, and so were my family and friends. When I went to Hanoi to practice, I always reminded myself to try to overcome all difficulties to complete the task. This is definitely one of the most special memories of my youth, and I will have something to "flex" with my children and grandchildren later," An Thu excitedly said.

Return to Vietnam to contribute and be close to family
Not only outstanding in her role as an A80 soldier, An Thu also makes many people admire her for her impressive academic and work achievements. She graduated as valedictorian of the Fashion Design major from Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) in 2022.
She then received a 100% master's scholarship and, at the same time, received an admission letter from the Italian Consulate General for a short-term exchange program at Univpm Università Politecnica delle Marche.
She decided to go to Italy to continue to improve her knowledge and pursue her passion. Then, she returned to Vietnam to work.

When asked why she did not stay in Italy to develop her career in the fashion industry, a strong field of this country, An Thu said she always wanted to return to her homeland to live and work.
"Partly, I want to return to my country and do work that can serve the Fatherland. I am always proud of my nation. No matter how far I go, I always want to return to Vietnam and develop myself here. Moreover, I want to be close to my family because I always feel safe when my family is by my side," she shared.

Returning to Vietnam, An Thu quickly stabilized her work, working as a freelance stylist for artists such as Le Duong Bao Lam, Tu Long, H'Hen Nie,... and opening two coffee shops in Ho Chi Minh City.
"I remember when I was a student, I always had to run around looking for a coffee shop to work on my projects. So later, when I had some capital, I decided to open a study coffee shop model - reasonable cost, especially suitable for students," she said.
During the months of training for the A80 mission, An Thu still took advantage of the evenings to work online. In addition, she also had a personal assistant to support her work in Ho Chi Minh City, and her parents also helped a lot when she was away from home.

Talking about the months of training, An Thu remembers most the moment of "walking among the people" during the preliminary and final rehearsals.
"I was really proud. The cheers everywhere made me emotional and unforgettable," she said.
An Thu admitted that at first she was hesitant about leaving her job to join the training. But until now, she still has no regrets.
"Not everyone has the opportunity to participate in this historic event. This is the motivation for me to try harder and overcome all difficulties. Because when you are young, just try what you want, you will know where your limits are and how you can overcome many challenges," An Thu said.
