Self-reliance and self-study

Due to work conditions, Ly Na's parents could not directly take care of their children, so when they started 6th grade, Ly Na and her younger brother moved to Phu Son ward, old Thanh Hoa city (now Hac Thanh ward) to live with her grandparents. From then on, she began to get used to an independent life. Her day usually started with waking up early to prepare breakfast, taking her younger brother to class, and then going to school. In the evening, after helping her grandparents with some housework and teaching her younger brother to study, she began to engrossed herself in books until late at night. A life full of worries helped Ly Na form a high sense of discipline and responsibility from a very early age.

Right from primary school, Ly Na stood out for her intelligence and diligence. During her primary school years at Muong Lat Town Primary and Secondary School, old Muong Lat District (now Muong Lat Commune), Ly Na was always an excellent student, loved by teachers and friends.

In junior high school, Ly Na “moved” quite a lot when in grade 6 she went to Nguyen Chich Junior High School (Dong Son ward). In grade 7 she transferred to Muong Lat Town Primary and Secondary School. In grades 8 and 9 she studied at Minh Khai Junior High School (Hac Thanh ward).

Despite changing schools many times, Ly Na has always been an excellent student with admirable academic achievements. In grade 7, Na won first prize in English and Literature in the district-level Cultural Subjects Excellent Student Exchange Competition. That same year, Ly Na participated in the District-level Cultural Subjects Excellent Student Exchange Competition with her 9th graders in English (according to the regulations of the Department of Education and Training) and won second prize despite being two years younger than the other contestants.

In grade 9, he became co-valedictorian of Ham Rong High School with Ha Nguyen Nhat Minh, a student of Cu Chinh Lan Secondary School (Hac Thanh ward) with a total score of 28.6 points (Math 9, Literature 9, English 9.6 points and 1 priority point).

Ly Na's tireless efforts and achievements are proof of her perseverance and ability to adapt flexibly in all learning environments.

Ly Na shared: “Living far away from my parents, being independent from an early age, not being picked up and dropped off by my parents when I go to school... sometimes makes me feel sad because I don't have my parents by my side like my friends. But I understand that my parents are also trying for our future. So, I always tell myself to study well to teach my younger siblings and not let my grandparents and parents down.”

Proud of her student, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Principal of Minh Khai Secondary School, said: “Ly Na is a relatively special student. She studies all subjects well, has deep thinking and very good self-study ability. Besides, Ly Na is also an active class monitor, participates in the English and Literature excellent student team, won third prize at the provincial level in the “Understanding the Party’s history” contest... She also actively participates in collective activities, is a member of the art team, MC for many extracurricular activities of the school... The achievements that Ly Na has achieved are completely worthy of her efforts as well as her valuable learning spirit and attitude”.

The achievements that Ly Na has achieved not only make her teachers and family proud but also have a strong inspirational meaning for many other students, especially students in mountainous areas and ethnic minority students.

“Keep the fire burning, keep the light burning”

Living far away from her parents, Ly Na always receives enough love from her family. Despite their old age, her grandparents still give love and close attention to their grandchildren's studies and daily activities.

In particular, Ly Na's mother - Ms. Pham Thi Oanh is the one who has silently accompanied her child throughout her growing up process. Away from her child, she still maintains the habit of calling every night, listening to her child share, encouraging and guiding her to overcome the pressure of studying and the emotions of adolescence. On weekends, Ms. Oanh takes a bus, traveling hundreds of kilometers from Muong Lat to the city with her children.

Ms. Oanh shared: "From grade 1 to grade 9, Ly Na was always an excellent student, which made me very happy and proud."

“Although I cannot be with my child every day, I always encourage him to read books diligently, taking books as his companion. I often buy good books, let him watch short films about the gifts of life or seeds of the soul so that he knows how to love, share, behave properly and always find motivation to study and practice. I myself do not force my child to study but often take him on trips here and there so that he can learn more from life. I believe that when children understand the lessons and understand the hearts of their parents and teachers, they will naturally love learning, thereby proactively studying and accessing knowledge that they find useful for themselves,” Ms. Oanh added.

It is the appropriate, stress-free learning method that has helped Ly Na confidently pursue her dreams and wish to do more useful things for the community. Sharing her wish to become a student at the Foreign Trade University to have a dynamic, modern learning environment to help develop her full potential, Ly Na said: "In the future, I want to work in the field of foreign economics or serve in the police force, following in my father's footsteps, contributing to building my homeland."

In the future, I want to work in the field of Foreign Economic Relations or serve in the police force, following in my father's footsteps and contributing to the development of my homeland. I want to become a useful person for society, bringing knowledge back to help children in the highlands where I grew up and understand the disadvantages there.

With courage, intelligence and clear goals, Ly Na is a typical student of the new generation of youth, excellent in intelligence, outstanding in physical strength, rich in cultural identity - a generation of youth with the mission of "keeping the fire and lighting it up".
