Russian missiles cause heavy losses to Ukraine in Zaporozhie

Videos of attacks using this advanced missile were released by various Russian news sources between February 4 and February 28.

Four of the Izdeliye 305 missile strikes were aimed at Ukrainian positions in the Malinovka settlement in the Zaporozhye region. One of the targets was a location used by Ukrainian forces as a communications center. A Starlinke satellite internet terminal was installed at the location.

Two other airstrikes targeted a command and control center in the Tonenkoye settlement. A forward position of Kiev forces east of the Opytne settlement in the Donetsk region was also targeted.

The Izdeliye 305 missile was developed by the Kolomna Mechanical Design Bureau for the upgraded Mi-28NM and Ka-52M attack helicopters. It can also be launched from the Mi-8MNP-2 special forces helicopter.

The missile is equipped with an inertial navigation system with GLONASS support, an optical thermal imaging guidance seeker and a two-way secure data link. The maximum range of the missile is said to be around 15 km. It is equipped with a high-explosive warhead weighing up to 25 kg.

The Izdeliye 305 missile can be used in two different modes. In the first mode, the target is marked by the operator before launch and the combat helicopter can turn away immediately after launching the missile.

In the second mode, the missile is launched without locking on to a target. The missile is first launched and then adjusted using inertial guidance with satellite positioning. Images from the seeker are transmitted back to the helicopter via a data link system, called AS-BPLA. The operator can select and change targets while the missile is flying towards its area.

Russian helicopters have been using Izdeliye 305 missiles to attack Ukrainian Armed Forces targets since Russia began its special military operation.
