A particular target of this attack was the area of the city of Stryi in the Lviv region. The city is home to the Bilche-Volitsko-Uhersky underground gas storage facility, and in recent weeks the Russian military has stepped up attacks on it.
An airstrike was also recorded in the port of Ochkov in the Nikolaev region.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry , these actions by Russia are a response to Ukraine's attempts to damage facilities of the Russian oil and gas industry.
On April 8, the Russian Defense Ministry also reported that the Russian military conducted a high-precision attack on a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) production and storage facility in the city of Zaporozhye on Monday.
According to RT, the Russian Defense Ministry added that the attack was carried out by an Iskander tactical ballistic missile system. Video released by the Russian military shows the missile penetrating the warehouse roof before destroying the building.
The attack was also “a response to Kiev’s efforts to damage Russia’s oil and gas industry and energy facilities.” It was part of a broader series of attacks targeting Ukraine’s “military-industrial complex, weapons and drone factories,” as well as energy facilities associated with such targets.
In recent months, Ukraine has gradually stepped up its efforts to launch long-range suicide drone attacks on critical Russian infrastructure, particularly oil refineries and industrial sites. The attacks spiked in mid-March as Ukrainian forces attempted to cross the border into Russia’s Belgorod and Kursk regions.
