Notably, the merger of the Vietnam Cai Luong Theatre, the Vietnam Cheo Theatre, and the Vietnam Tuong Theatre into the Vietnam National Traditional Stage Theatre; the merger of the Viet Bac Folk Music, Dance and Singing Theatre into the Vietnam Music, Dance and Singing Theatre, and the name change to the Vietnam National Music, Dance and Singing Theatre.
After the merger, the 12 theaters under the Ministry will have only 9 units, including: Vietnam National Music, Dance and Song Theater; Vietnam National Traditional Theater; Vietnam Puppetry Theater; Vietnam Symphony Orchestra; Vietnam Drama Theater; Vietnam Music and Ballet Theater; Vietnam Contemporary Arts Theater; Vietnam Youth Theater; and Vietnam Circus Federation. The restructuring must be completed before August 1.
This is considered an important step towards forming truly national art units, with large scale, diverse performance colors, and enough resources to serve political tasks, preserve and develop national art in the context of fierce competition in the current entertainment market.
Sharing about the preparation process, Meritorious Artist Nguyen Hai Linh, Director of the Vietnam Music, Dance and Singing Theater, said that the general spirit of the two merged theaters is that there will be no major disruption to the artist team, only a unified administrative management apparatus.
Each troupe still maintains its own artistic activities, preserving its own style and characteristics. Only when there are large-scale programs do all artists coordinate, creating a combined strength to bring about the highest efficiency.
He affirmed: "The Vietnam National Music, Dance and Singing Theater is a place to preserve and develop the quintessence of national art.
The merger of Viet Bac Folk Theater will enrich the repertoire, diversify cultural colors and expand performance space.
Traditional folklore from Viet Bac will be understood more deeply and spread more widely.
However, the merger process also poses many challenges. Meritorious Artist Nguyen Hai Linh frankly admitted: The Viet Bac Folk Music, Dance and Singing Theater has a team of artists who are many years old, and the financial autonomy mechanism, which is already difficult, will now require even greater efforts to maintain stable operations.
In addition, the market for performing folk arts in the Northern region is not large, so there needs to be a policy to support ordering, assigning tasks and regimes for artists to ensure that the mission of preservation and development is effectively carried out.
“Over the past 70 years, generations of artists of the Viet Bac Folk Music, Dance and Singing Theatre have created a unique artistic style imbued with the identity of the northern mountainous region.
We hope that after the merger, the State will have more policies to preserve and promote the cultural heritage values of ethnic minorities, while creating conditions for the development of new programs so that folk art can both maintain its traditional character and carry the breath of the times," Meritorious Artist Nguyen Hai Linh shared.
But the great advantage of the merger model, according to Meritorious Artist Nguyen Hai Linh, is to expand the scope of activities of the Vietnam National Music, Dance and Singing Theater, from domestic performances to international exchanges, contributing to the goal of building Vietnam's cultural industry.
The artists also expressed their belief that after the merger, the quality of art will be improved, and performances will be invested in more carefully thanks to abundant staff and better organizational conditions.
This restructuring is expected to create strong, professional art troupes, truly worthy of being "National" in terms of scale, quality and role, competitive enough to affirm the position of Vietnamese culture in the region and the world .
