Strengthening the Vietnam – United States Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

On July 21, at the National Assembly Headquarters, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong received US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper, on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations and promoting the implementation of the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

At the reception, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong affirmed that Vietnam values ​​the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the United States and thanked the United States for supporting a "strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous" Vietnam.

According to Nhan Dan Newspaper, the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly expressed his delight at the positive results in cooperation between the two countries in all fields, from politics - diplomacy, economics - trade - investment to education - training, overcoming the consequences of war... In which he acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of the Ambassador and the Embassy staff.

According to VNA, the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly affirmed Vietnam's determination to build an independent, self-reliant, and deeply integrated economy, in which science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation are identified as the top important breakthroughs and the main driving force for developing modern productive forces.

He suggested that Ambassador Knapper and the US Embassy continue to strengthen connectivity activities, promote cooperation, technology transfer, support Vietnam to become a regional high-tech center and an important "link" in the global semiconductor supply chain, as well as continue to urge the US to soon recognize Vietnam's Market Economy Status and remove Vietnam from the D1 and D3 strategic export control lists.

The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly said that Vietnam-US parliamentary cooperation has become a bright spot in the bilateral relationship, making great contributions since the period when the two countries healed their war past, normalized relations and have now become a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Regarding exchange activities between the two National Assemblies, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong affirmed that the Vietnamese National Assembly is ready to welcome delegations from the US Congress to visit and work, and at the same time hopes that the two sides will promote exchange activities and learn from legislative experiences.

Ambassador Knapper shared his deep impressions of the determination of Vietnamese authorities at all levels in implementing two-tier local government, saying that he himself had witnessed the initial successes of this implementation through recent local business trips.

Ambassador Knapper affirmed that the US always wishes to closely coordinate with Vietnam to effectively implement the contents of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework on all pillars, especially promoting high-level contacts, expanding substantive cooperation in areas such as economics - trade - investment, education - training, defense - security and overcoming the consequences of war.

The Ambassador emphasized that the US will always stand with Vietnam in its efforts to achieve its socio-economic development goals. Ambassador Knapper also expressed his condolences over the boat accident in Quang Ninh on July 19, affirming that the US is ready to support Vietnam in natural disaster prevention, search and rescue, and response to extreme weather events.
